Was it only me that couldn't understand the soft penalties that were given against the Eels in the early minutes of the Cowboys.
There first try was off a forward pass that followed four soft penalties.
The tackle count was ridiculous. The Eels didn't get the ball for the first nine sets or something like that.
It seemed to me that the NRL was going to send Thurston out a winner regardless.
The easiest way to do that is to make one team do all the tackling in the first 15 minutes in hot North Queensland.
The Eels should have been better but I really think the blatant agenda by the refs is shameful sometimes.

I think Matty Johns mentioned it a few weeks back that the refs are back into their crackdown and what they did is what Bill Harrigan used to do. They blow the pea out of the whistle early to set a standard. We just couldn't defend in that first 10 minutes and force any turnovers.
That's funny as the eels struggled during the crack down at the start of the year too. Parra were extremely slow thinkers and didn't adapt to take penalty goals like many other teams were doing. Other teams were getting 6-10 points a game extra on penalty goals and we rarely took any.
It may have just been you mate.
I think most knew the script was written for the JT fairytale long before the team boarded the plane to Townsville.
Its just another example of what an absolute rort this game, sorry entertainment....has become.
So, is it that the referees are all stupid or is it that they are merely Toddy puppets?
Even the bunker gets a heap of decisions wrong which is the best evidence that this game is disappearing up its own arse since Greenberg took over. The quicker he is gone the better and who needs him anyway when Nick Politis is running the game most of the time.
Yes I’d say it’s a combination of all three possibilities.
Lets not forget that Greenberg was a referee for Seward when he applied for the eels job.
brissyeel - I did the same, watched for the Terepo play the ball. Dead set happened almost exactly the same in Broncs v Roosters. No marker, no inconvenience caused by the player falling over after playing the ball correctly. No penalty. The Vave tackle was repeated many times, but I did notice some tacklers not driving in hard with the shoulder to avoid the dangerous call. Tim Mannah got penalised for not moving to the side after a tackle. He had released the guy in record time, and got off in the direction his body was facing, it just the way it happened, there was no intent to impede. How many times do you see something penalised that has no impact on anything, I would think that there has to be a disadvantage imposed otherwise you could have trivial rule book stuff blown up all day.
B.A. has got to start risking $10000 fine like Ricky Stuart, Des Hasler and Toovs otherwise we will keep getting the same crap from these refs.
Yes, it’s like watching Mannah captain the team.
The NRL definitely had a memo out to make life easier for JT and the Cows. We all know the NRL love JT, they wouldn't ruin his party by giving Parra any favours.
