nrl Referees Coach Robert Finch today announced that the referees’ interpretation of the advantage rule would revert back to the discretion of the referees and that, from Round 7, the 10-metre territorial gain for the advantage rule will no longer apply.
“The 10-metre ruling was designed to get more consistency from all referees, which is what every club, player and fan wants, but it has become apparent that the advantage rule interpretation should be left to the discretion of the referees and that is what will occur from this week,” Mr Finch said.

It has really annoyed me when this has happened because they have already had their chance with the ball and the opposition really has no incentive to try and defend and get the ball back until they reached the 10 metre mark.
We'll see, I suppose....
In other words they have the right to do as they see fit.
Whilst it will be better than the ridiculous 10m rule, it will have inconsistency written all over it.
Teams will start to feel like they are being unfairly targeted and there wont be a rule to back up the decision except for that it is 'refs discretion'
It may be just me, but it feels like refs pick on Parra a lot, and I see this as another way to get to us.
Anyway, it will be a lot better than the previous 10m rule.
