Ok I know this is a Parra fan site and there is great deal of hate towards this guy.....BUT its interesting that a player goes to a club gets hoodwinked by Gus after we are in a GF goes through the hard times with this new club and gets binned off for the next shinny thing...tbh the bulldogs fucking suck and for Gus to use the Media to now create a narrative that he has no disipline and is of no value ......is interesting ......I hope they fall in a heap .....Im all in for the warriors this year....The bulldogs and Galvin SUCK

I would love to know Ryles thoughts of course but i feel we are in a good spot at Hooker either way. Have money to get someone like Mahoney, or develop Smith further who at worst is a FG standard Hooker that can get the job done with Hands as a back-up. Plus Coinakis could also be good.
Based on what we've chased it suggests Hooker could be a need but i wonder if Smith has and will change that. He is a technically clean Hooker.
Losing Mahoney was the start of our downfall and I don't blame him for going at all.
It was 💯 the club's fault for not prioritising him and low balling him.
I would welcome him back home with arms wide open.
As for Gus Gould, he is a piece of crap but his results are undeniable and I would welcome him to Parra in a heartbeat because we ain't winning shit with the shitcunts we currently have running the club.
Well said BEM, spot on. I was saying it for a while but got shut down, MA was the future plan. We offered Mahoney 2 years then 3 with the plan that MA takes over in 2025 or 2026. It is what was reported on radio in 2022, talkback. That the club saw MA as the future Hooker. It is why they got an ageing Hodgson as a mentor knowing he had 2 years max so MA would take over from him.
Had BA still been in charge MA is starting 9 over Smith. Now is that a bad thing? We wont know til MA starts playing more for Newcastle, i don't blame them for having a plan but was the plan for the right reasons of knowing MA would be better than Mahoney?
But yes, why blame Mahoney for taking a really good deal, he did give us the chance to counter and we refused saying our final offer stands. It cost us dearly with Hodgson failing and regressing fast meaning we used Hands before we planned too then brought back Lussick in desperation. Then use them 2 with MA as developing, BA is sacked and MA wanted out.

The great Brad Arthur was always aiming to have his son as our starting hooker no matter what.
A hell of a lot of people on here went off big time at Mahoney when their anger should've been directed at the club and BA.
Those same people then praised the signing of Hodgson and even said he was an upgrade on Mahoney.
I for one would love to have Mahoney back at the club and I believe a Mahoney/Smith combo would be fantastic.
The NRL have seriously got to stop this circus that is player contracts. They should be made to be enforceable by both player and club. It's getting out of hand players and clubs entering into multi-year deals, then wanting an out if it's not working, or if the market has shifted and player managers want a bigger cut. Would see more contracts signed for 1-3 years max.
This. Everyone made a big deal about Galvin but Clint newton and bacially only 1 ex player in the media brought up that the fact that clubs are worse than players at this
anyway good example of this going forward is Newcastle have to be stuck with Dylan brown for next 10 years . Spot and full contract should always be on their books
I'm liking what Ryley Smith has achieved in a very short period. He has an incredible motor for someone not used to defending in the middle in NRL. Mahoney took years to achieve that and Smith's defence I think is better. We saw the difference once he went off in the Dogs game. I always thought MA was too small for NRL, and I think he stays in Cup (unless AOB gets the flick and BA is appointed HC at Knights).
