Ryles states he is is no rush to make signings! I am sorry, but we have an L plate coach who sees no rush? Really, we are second last on a ladder. We will be lucky to avoid the spoon. Unless something changes we have no change on last season, despite the fact that I do see improvements in the squad, but we are still way off the mark. I am stunned by this statement and we must have so much money available for the right players to improve this squad yet we appear to be doing risky squat! I truly hope there are some things going on in the background but if we keep status quo, we are in a word of pain for years to come. The fact that we still have no decent replacement for Dylan Brown says it all. I am getting beyond frustrated. We lack serious impact forwards and a quality 6 and centre. Are we just sitting and hoping or is the Club going to come up with something? One concerned and frustrated life long eels fan here.

I actually got the 95% expenditure wrong. It's 97.5% now. Minimum pay for a full NRL contract is now $130K/Year.
Parramatta is close to top expenditure across the NRL when it comes to its football program and junior pathways. It's one of the few clubs that employs full time junior coaches and women's staff. It's easy to find this information, it's publicly available. The club isn't restricting its expenditure on its football program.
A Rookie coach that has a team running equal last after 14 rounds, must surely be a bit more anxious then what he states "in no rush to make signings."
Lets hope that means he is after quality and he's prepared to ensure we have the cap $$ for that quality player when he becomes available.
Cobbo, Staggs, Mahoney, Smith, Hass, Tino, Fifita all have get out clauses, are off contract, or are being shopped around. Some handy talent right there. I have zero confidence though that our recruitment team can negotiate and close a deal for a player that is wanted by other clubs.
And there could be more in the next few months BE. Some even better than what you listed.
Hope so, i'd hate to waste our warchest on has beens or maybes.
Bluey.
"I have zero confidence though that our recruitment team can negotiate and close a deal for a player that is wanted by other clubs."
This begs a response in that yes, our recruitment team is average from a charismatic point of view. Also the club's from a reputation /performance perspective.
The next question then arises is our board/commitee financially "savy" or their ability to attract players a result of MON and the CEO, both or individually.
Who would you have negotiating with players and how would you approach them?
Does this mean we buy Peter O'Sullivan, renowned recruiter and picker. Yes he is entrenched at Newcastle and is personally responsible for Dyllan Brown's 1.3m per year for 10.
Alternatively we presumably cannot get Ponissi or Cameron......who can we get? that will make that "sale"?.
Now if it is my business I would have been looking to this for the past 2 years and maybe at this stage no better than we currently are.....I accepted that MON should have finished last year when the new regime came in. Presumably someone else may have thought that way and are still looking at that, waiting for a suitable replacement.
Personally I would have Ryles doing the final picking and making sure he is in every meeting that requires the coaches vision and how "he the player" would be used. I also assume this happens now?
Of course not having met or negotiated with either of those/our encumbents, I am not qualified to judge them.
So to answer your question can you make a suggestion as if it was your business?
PS Make sure you don't recruit anyone that wears a suit, that would not suit the "redneck" mentality that our haters abide by!
You're right OP, I'd rather he is panicking and going mental and begging every player to come here.
If the right player is not available, I'd rather we keep the dough and play some kid.
We were 15th last year. We got a new rookie coach. We signed two top level backs who are showing their value, and are undergoing a stylistic change and a change of philosophy a bit across the club that Ryles brought with him.
Chill, everyone.
Yep, from where I sit we are just sort of waiting and hoping some dominoes fall and we can get some of the left over scraps.
It's frustrating as hell but you can be sure, that the bean counters at Parra will not pay above or market price for any player that becomes available. We are a club that buys bargains and only bargains.
And we won't be winning a damn thing as long as that's the philosophy the club pushes. We aren't about winning comps we are about competing in the NRL. The end.
