RECRUITMENT

Seems like every week there are good quality players coming onto the market or that are available that would add something to our team and roster but we aren't seeming to be as active in the player market as we were earlier this year. EG Keon. Barnett

Has anyone heard anything or have any news on any potential signings for 2027 /2028 we may look at? I still believe there is the basis of a very good football side at the Eels but we defintely need 1 or 2 additions of quality players at the absolute least

            • I don't think there is any question on that Daz, welcome to the world of commercial reality.

If the NRL wanted to run on a socialistic basis, they would contract all the players to the NRL, bring in a draft and go for a competetion that is based on total equality.
All players would have their bank accounts monitored and the cash transaction act under Austrac would police the total structure.....don't worry human beings will get around some of these issues, cars, boats, property construction projects discounted security sales are all ways of doing it.

Do you think Politis and other single benefactors give a stuff about consitutions and the like, they are effectively beneficial dictators (beneficial being subjective).

I am not complaining about this, Penrith have come through this mire and it is possible that we will eventually as well. That said Parra has made things unattractive in opportunism, owing to there good management in intensionally  making it hard to cheat.

              Shit happens!

              • But, Poppa, you might have missed the trap into which my question was leading our R&R experts.

If it's about rich clubs breed success, then either:

                A) R&R teams' relation to ontield success is fractured through much broader financial relationships s than simply their "individual choices".

                OR

                B) All the claims "the club" is failing the team because the club doesn't have footy heads are wrongheaded. It success stems from being rich, you want business heads running the club not footy heads.

I'm saying our R&R Experts operate with wildly contradictory claims.

            • TPAs are but a tool if you don't have them and others are operating with them that puts us at a disadvantage in recruiting circles. That's all it is in a field that is competitive and a resource at the top of the talent tree which is scarce you need every tool in the toolbox.

        • It is always going to be the same no matter who is saying it. It's either I've heard they are awful to deal with, another they are great to deal with. Depends on what side you are on in the entire argument.

        • "In the long term we will be winners"

How long have we been saying that poppa? How many years have we been saying we need outside backs

Its people like you, the apologists, who keep people like o'neill an Sarantinos in the job.

          • "How many years have we been saying we need outside backs"

You tell me Cheefy? and what have you done about it, fcuk all....have you made a constructive comment in the process? we all aknowledge we have problems in the backline, not the least being not producing any speedsters through our junior ranks.

It is not the answer to just go out on a tirade about sacking people, ask the right questions, go to meetings and ask what we are doing or be assured that we are doing something....

The reality is we have had Ryles for one decent season of hope with the promise of more to come and that more to come has been an injury ridden disaster.....Souths had one last year, Roosters the year before.....Penrith had a totally dead season of promise blow up the year before they became the power they are.

In real world managed by adults Cheefy you don't write up about sacking everyone, you construct a better or more efficient process.....players, officals and leaders do not grow on tree's.

        • Let me clarify, no one said anything about a lack of respect. What I've heard from a player agent is the wheels turn very slowly at Parra. They are slow to make a decision, slow to put in an offer. Slow to return phone calls etc etc

        • See Pops without what you mention it's going to a gunfight without a enough ammo. The club must know this if we don't have that in place your going to lose most times. That's definitely an issue they need to fix.

People are moaning about tax free salary nd TPAs at PNG now when in all essence there's some clubs out there that have had this advantage for years.

If you don't have every competitive advantage at your doorstep your making up the numbers you really are.

          • No one denies this but do you understand our particular circumstances Coryn, we made the rules so we couldn't cheat.... do you think that the TPA's out there are actually done on an arms length basis....of course not, but we made it hard for ourselves being a good corporate citizen.

If I was running the show I would be having the best accountants and lawyers in there coming up with solutions that maybe a little "greyer" than our current conservatives, I think this is coming and I have been advised we are actually seeing corporate sponsors out there that may be intersted.

What doesn't help is having "gooses" out there wanting everyone sacked and Parra is back where they start....hence my comments on patience.....surely you can do that, I will probably be dead before we win another premiership, I just want to see us respected as the force that we should be and eventually premierships will happen.....grossly overated by the way.....once you win one you are expected to do it againa and again....just ask the Bronco's.

To again quote Cappy and Nos, evolution is better than revolution, why cannot we see that?
