Reality Bites - Illusion Shattering Moments - Eels Blogs

With the proliferation of non-footy blogs, I just thought I'd sound out the diverse background of people here on a particular topic. What I'm looking for are interesting moments in your life when you realised that all was not as it seems.Mine relates to a radio broadcast. I'm not going to name the station as I don't want any problems for Phil.This occurred some time back at an outside broadcast. I enjoyed the particular program and had entered a contest for a prize that you had to be in attendance to claim. The contest required a response by email to a certain question, and generally the responses would have to be witty to be in the running. I actually felt quite positive about my chances and the small attendance at the venue had me feeling more confident.The first thing that raised my concern was the work of the producers. There were little games and contests during the program and the producers were talking to certain people before the games. After calling for contestants before each game, of course the winners would invariably be those spoken to by the producers before the game. I'm not saying that they knew them, but they had certainly picked them before the game.In one game, my girlfriend was a contestant. A sound bite of a movie was played and she raised her hand for the answer. The producer walked past her and moved along the line to someone she had been talking to earlier. He hadn't raised his hand and said he didn't know the answer. My girlfriend said that she knew. The producer just shook her head at her and continued talking to the first bloke and asked if his wife, in the audience, would know. Of course she did.Later, just before the major prize was due to be announced, a person who had not been in the audience for the duration of the show arrived. The producer gave a quick wave. Of course that was the major prize winner. I can understand that they probably contacted the selected winner to ensure that they were there and the show flowed smoothly. However, the many other people there were under the impression that their chances of winning were enhanced by their attendance.I've never bothered with outside broadcasts since.

Anytime i have had to get help from a public servant! Ive said it time and time again, i would get more help from the australian government if i was a refugee then i do as an australian citizen
