RCG and Lurker

Reagan Campbell-Gillard will be on close to $1 million at Penrith next season - and the Panthers are so desperate to get rid of the big prop that they are willing to pay half his salary if he finds a new club.

It would be an unprecedented move to pay such a massive amount to have a player run around for a rival club - but the Panthers are ready to bite the bullet.

The old Gus Gould regime signed Campbell-Gillard to a massive five year deal last year and new coach Ivan Cleary doesn't believe it to be money well spent.

Only one club is showing interest in the former State of Origin and Test prop - the Panthers' arch rivals and neighbours Parramatta.

The Eels are losing veteran prop Tim Mannah and while they would never consider Campbell-Gillard on his current deal, they see a $500,000 salary as a bargain.

If they can clear RCG from their books, Penrith will make a play for Roosters hardman Jared Waerea-Hargreaves.

Stand by for developments over the off season.

  • IMO $500k is a good deal for both sides - so long as it is for each year of the contract

I reckon RCG is currently giving them $400k worth of value and a change of scenery could be expected to get him performing a bit better. So everyone could be expected to win for $2m over four years

    • Willie their will be no chance the panthers are going to pay $500k a year for the next 4 years for a player to play at another club .if it were 1 year you would do it , 2 years a big maybe but anything longer no chance.

      • Frankie. I have it on a perfect sauce. It's been done deal for months. Signed and done. 25% per year they are paying.

This is paper talk to justify the click bait

        • Tomato or BBQ or are you into something a little spicy like Sriracha Hot Sauce?

      • I am sure Parra have paid freight on players for that long. I hear Hock is still on our salary cap

        • No, Hocks multi miillion dollar contract ended last season. The only two contracts left from the Daniel Anderson era are Daniel Mortimer until 2025 @ $650.00 per season and Jarryd Hayne (the slush fund) ending 2028 @ $1.3mill per season.

        • Is he still coming?

  • 500k seems OK but 4-5 years is outrageous.it defies logic that we would sign a player like him for that long. That duration should be reserved for the likes of munsters and trbojevics. Players that you know will perform.

I guess weve seen it before with parra. Hopefully things have changed.

"C'mon AI, surely Kautoga gets the left edge spot. What's the point in developing him, seeing huge progress and then dropping him after one injury. Williams was good there but he is good enough that he can play either edge or even in the middle.…"

"Well if Souths can have almost 5-6 players on or near $1 million, how the fuck can we only have 2 and the rest are on min to average salaries.
Something stinks and maybe we are overpaying for unrealized potential yet again."
