  • is it me or do the Knights have 2009 eels feel about it?

    attacking weapons all over the park, knights' defence is fragile

    2009 Eels defence was rock solid and underrated, I was watching

    the qualifying final v the dragons the other day, the Dragons 83% field position

    63% possession after 26 mins we end up leading 6 - 2, unbelievable goal-line defence

    sliding defence executed to perfection

  • What's happening with the Panthers defense?? Conceding 24 points in 44 minutes

    • Mick, I do wonder. It's too early to tell as the Panthers have had the best defence for 5-years straight, but they're never conceded 60 points in two-straight since 2019.

      That said, there's been upward trend since 2020 where teams leak more and more. So far this season, defences are the leakiest since 2020. Probably in part due to the game getting faster and bias towards attack.

      That spells danger signs for us too. We could see heavier losses than we have over the last 5 years especially since Ryles is rebuilding the team, weakened, he isn't happy with the pack, an inexperiencd spine, and cohesion will take time. Could see some turbulence (this site will implode and we'll need some sound-insulated, padded walls). Hopefully, this won't happen, but there's a high likelihood.

      Panthers Defence (rank, pg conceded) & points conceded in a game (worst 5)
      2019 (8th, 19.75pg) - 32L, 30L, 30L, 30L, 30L
      2020 (1st, 11.90pg) - 28W, 24W, 16L, 14W, 14W
      2021 (1st, 11.92pg) - 37L*, 26L, 19L, 16W, 16W
      2022 (1st, 13.75pg) - 38L*, 34L, 22W, 22L, 20W
      2023 (1st, 13.00pg) - 32L, 27L*, 24W, 20L, 18W
      2024 (1st, 16.42pg) - 34W, 32L*, 26W, 24L, 22W
      2025 (TBC, 30.00pg) - 38L, 22W,

      * Weakened, No Cleary

      2019 Panthers: Early Signs of a new era with debutants; Came 10th with 8th best defence overall; R10 they were last with the worst defence; R11-R25 - 4th best defence;

      Overall Trends 2019-2024 (points conceded per game): 2019 (17.78), 2020 (25.5), 2021 (18.39), 2022 (22.83), 2023 (20.78), 2024 (23.44), 2025 (24.4 so far)
      Highest during Covid 2020, then up and down year-to-year; but overall upward trend defences leaking more.

      • Great work HOE, although early in the season the Panthers were off last  night especially in defense - to me there are huge danger signs and some cracks appearing early on, we don't know the reason so far, but an interesting observation was made last can't remember the by which commentator - Panthers were attacking mainly through the middle, this suits them because Yeo is major point of the Panthers attack - when the ball was shifted to the edges they did finds gaps in the roosters defensive line - now, this could be a fault in the game plan or poor execution. The main point, ivan clearly surprisingly was outsmarted by Trent Robinson - credit to the roosters with a host of players out, put together a great 80 performance that went down to the wire.The to be asked is, Is 5 titles I'm a row too much of a mountain to climb?

  • Grant Atkins an honouray member of the Panthers

    In the bunker...this crap only happens in the NRL..
