Questions To Be Asked About Last Night

I completely blame the commentators for last nights loss. They stated about 55 minutes into match that Cows were best and Parra worst at scoring in last 20 mins and then we let in 30 points, wtf.

Seriously I pose these questions particularly about the last 20 minutes:

  1. Every break was down the right side, who were our defenders there.
  2. Every try was scored from kicks, where was the fullback, was unsighted. Surely any fullback defends opposite JT as he takes nearly call Cows kicks.
  3. The team seemed tired by 60 minute mark, why wasn't 2 fresh reserves bought on. Why was only 15 players used for most match.
  4. Why wasn't Alvaro bought on at all, if coach has no confidence in him, why pick him. Certainly doesn't instil confidence in player's mind. Raises question, does BA pick team or someone else?
  5. Refs had good match and not to blame for loss, but, why wasn't obstruction penalty called in play leading up to Cows second try. On fourth tackle Cows run behind their players not once but twice denying Parra from tackling them. On next play JT kicked ball for try.

  • I'll add a question: What frigging position is Hopoate playing?

He seemed to be defending on the wing most of the time. I thought one of his strengths was his defence as a centre but most of the linebreaks were made on his side with Morgan defending in the centres.

We can't be paying a winger the dollars he is on so if Arthur doesn't think he can cope with centre he needs to go.
    • Maybe Hop was getting some wing practice for origin and Morgs Some centre practice while hop is away for Origin... Bullshit if you ask me.
    • I can only assume that BA is concerned with Morgans positional play and ability to jump for bombs given he's played so much at centre.

It is a problem we've had with other centres turned wingers (remember- stay on you bloody wing!!!)

    • If you have been watching games for the past few weeks you would have noticed that Hopoate attacks at centre and defends on the wing, Morgan attacks on the wing and defends at centre.

  • Another question I have is where was Morgan's speed? I've constantly heard that Morgan is in the team because of his speed but when he gets the opportunity to showcase it he gets run down and then loses the ball in the process.

  • I have been watching and that's my question exactly - which is he, a winger or a centre?

If Arthur thinks he can't defend at centre (for whatever reason) then he should only be getting a wingers salary or he should be moved on.

    • Could it possibly be because Arthur doesn't think that Morgan can defend on the wing? Hoppa definitely has the harder job, not Morgan.

As I said in attack Hoppa plays centre whilst Morgan attacks on the wing, Hoppa defends on the wing (where he has to handle with Morgan's inability to communicate, and then drop back for kick returns), and Morgan defends at centre.

      • There is no way known its harder to defend on the wing than at centre.

Centre is probably the hardest position on the field to defend at.

The more likely position  is that Arthur thinks that Hopoate adds more value with his kick returns (which are probably his strongest asset this year) but doesn't fully trust him to defend at centre with his lack of pace. He has been badly beaten on a couple of occasions, the most obvious recent one being when he was beaten one on one by the warriors centre who's name I can't recall at parra stadium.

        • Michael

we have seen centres playing wing and struggling to position themselves properly.

They come in and leave enough gap for good wingers to run around them.

The problem Morgan also has is the little guy inside him and he's not sure he can rely on him to take down the attacking opponent. Therefore two minds and points scored.

Dons flame suit for even mentioning such a heinus thing.

        • It would be harder to defend outside of Morgan as he doesn't appear to communicate with his outside player, so Hoppa has to go on body language to determine if Morgan is going to go in and shut a play down or hang back and slide across. It'd be hard to defend outside of Sandow too.
