  • Wenty is short for Wentworthville - they are a Rugby League club (and Team) a few kilometres west of Parramatta. Follow the road past Westmead station.

How it works - 13 guys go out onto a field opposing another 13 guys and they bash the living B'Jeezuz out of each other until the referee (a supposedly independent umpire) tells them to stop.
The 13 guys with the most points scored are declared the winner.
Some players are allowed to play in more than one team so you will sometimes see them running around in a different jersey with a totally different team.

Therein lies the extent of my knowledge of the current situation.

Sorry Chris as soon as you mentioned 'noob' I lost all control.
Hope you have got a good sense of humour - you need it on this site.

Good question though and I too will be watching for intelligent answers from those who know
    • I guess I left myself open...... :)

but how is Wenty connected to Parra?
    • Classic.
  • Wentworthville is our reserve grade side in the NSW Cup... Our 'feeder' club, if you will. The Toyota Cup squad is our Under 20's team in the Toyota Cup, which is the NRL's National Youth Competition. The NSW Cup, The Toyota Cup and the NRL are 3 seperate competitions.

When a player is signed to the Parramatta Eels, they will play in one of these sides. If they are under 20, they will play in our Toyota Cup squad, if they're not ready for first grade. However, if they are over 20 and not ready, they will play for the Wentworthville Magpies in the NSW Cup until they are. Some players never make it past this stage in their career. It's basically a team made up of Eels reserves, who we can call upon at any stage, so long as they are part of our top 25. That's what players such as Tom Humble, Brendan Oake and Jono Wright have been doing lately. They play for Wentworthville until they are required in our First Grade side due to injury or poor form.

The whole thing is a bit of a debarcle in my opinion. They need to bring back Reserve Grade in the NRL and have the 3 games played at each fixture, Toyota Cup, Reserve Grade and First Grade.

    Hope that makes sense.
    • Dan,
Great summary, I to believe it is a debacle. The league keeps telling us that it is keeping game prices down, but I now get to see only 2 games where I use to see 3 for the same money. ( It's a bit like Sorbent reducing toilet rolls to 200 sheets instead of 250 but charging the same price) about as useful as well.

It also annoys me that when I take my Grandson to a game and some one gets injured, I can tell him who I think will be the replacement but he doesn't know that player at all, having never seen him play. With this stupid system the continuity of support for all team grades is lost and the league is the poorer for it. I have tried bringing this up with league officials but you just get a confused look and an even more confused answer, most of them don't have a clue.
  • Ah, right. That would make sense, with all the players switching teams mid-season.
    • Dan thank you heaps!!!

Yeh I was puzzled where the reserve grade went......
      • No worries mate ;)
        • Hey Chris, Dan forgot to mention, if a player is under performing or just not good enough to play for the eels, they also have the option to go to Cronulla or Manly (and recently the Warriors).
          • Haha Gold!
