*sigh* I know alot of people are going to criticise me for this...
Yes, this is a ‘rumour’ blog. I’m not into gossip, I’m just letting people what I know what I’ve heard...
Apparently we have signed Quade Cooper for next year. Yes, I also felt a burning sensation in my ears as I gave an evident snort of derision while I calculated the probability of this happening.
Anyhow, I was picking up my 2011 Eels Heritage Jersey from lay-buy at Sport-Stop in Stanhope Gardens on Friday. I told the manager of the store about the merchandising of our uniform to that WA based company (Burley Sekem). Amusingly, the manager told me was that the ‘Burley Sekem logo’ will not be on the uniform on the centre of the jersey, instead the empty space on the jersey will have further advertising with the extra profit received being divided by the WA company and the Parramatta Eels.
Soon after, literally in a quiet voice, the manager told me of how he gathered some information through ISC that Quade Cooper has joined the Eels commencing next year. At first I laughed it off, pointing out the obvious fact that we have signed Ben Roberts and Chris Sandow in the halves already., and also contemplating if there was any direct connection with ISC and Quade Cooper? The manager later persisted with his former statement.
As open-minded as I am, I’m also highly realistic, and nearly discounted this as soon as I heard it. The more I contemplate it and see recent developments in the club such as; Mortimer ‘asking’ for a release, Walker’s recent retirement, etc, the less transparent it becomes. Phil has also pointed this out recently: http://www.1eyedeel.com/forum/topics/walker-latest-eel-to-be-releas. I also find it highly improbable that Willie Tonga will be our last signing. Surely we are still well below the cap, and I don’t think the departure of several players is just for Tonga. You just never know with rugby league...
In all seriousness he could have been giving some light-hearted gossiping to the conversation, but I usually tend to give people the benefit of the doubt unless they have been proven wrong in the past, and if there isn’t some degree to truth to it...
I have no idea what level of validity in this story is. I don’t want to come across as a person making rumours up for attention which alot of users have done with “mystery signings” (note: If I wanted to do that, I would of done it a long time ago!), bear with me and I will try and look more into it.
The question you have to ask yourself? How much would Quade Cooper be worth to the Parramatta Eels? Not just in terms of money, but playmaking value.
Either way, with or without QC, I’m quietly comfortable we are fielding a top 4-6 side next year. Just food for thought? Cheers guys.
UP THE MIGHTY EELS!!

He re-signed with the Reds earlier this year and is now off-contract at the end of 2012.
good story buddy. might explain the little cleanout happening.
its plausible but he did sign for another year with ARU so you would have to think its not true or mabe your friend ment 2013?
Or get out clause so he can play in world cup then leave with no drama.
Roberts could be depth signing.
Good rumour anyway it least you have a story with it not just the usual.. cooper signed thats all im saying stuff
