QLD RUGBY LEAGUE BACKS PNGRLF

The Queensland Rugby League will back PNG to request for an expansion of the 2014 Intrust Super Cup and to include PNG in the competition.

This was discussed over the weekend during a meeting with the PNG Rugby League Foundation.

The weekend’s visit by the Queensland Rugby League representatives was to witness how Rugby League is played in the country.

This helped them to make recommendations to the Australian Rugby League Commission and the boards to consider including a team from PNG in the Intrust Super Cup come 2014.

After spectating weekend’s Digicel Cup Competition challenge between Enga Mioks and the Gulf Isapeas, they’ve seen talent and experienced the passion Papua New Guineans have for Rugby League.

General Manager of the Australian Competitions Jamie O’Connor says Queensland Rugby league will make sure PNG is considered.

PNG Rugby League Foundation Chief Executive Officer Brad Tassell said it has been an ongoing process about inclusion into the 2014 competition.

The Australian Rugby League Commission is currently undergoing a national review of Rugby league in Australia including New South Wales and Queensland Competitions.

Completion of the review is expected by the end of this month and recommendations will be discussed throughout June.

  • Don't care what qld rugby league want to do with PNG as long as NRL don't want to expand the comp. we can't even play home and away with 16 teams!
    • This is there first step into NRL, it also opens a pathway for any player coming through PNG will be a Maroon.

  • Where's PNG?  It's in Qld.
