If things do turn out for the worst when the NRL hands down its penalty for Parramatta’s alleged salary cap breach – and we lose a season ending amount of points (10 plus)- should the club consider some form of boycott of the competition? I think a 10plus point penalty would be way too harsh and I do think it is very relevant that every other club is breaching TPAs.
It may be an option to select our Wenty side every week for the rest of the season. We could also offer our players short term releases to play the rest of the season at other clubs and use the savings to ensure we retain and recruit into the future. For example release Foran/Norman to other clubs and front/or back end their contracts for the next four years. This may also appease the players (who are not at fault in all of this) and still give them the opportunity to play finals football (unfortunately with another club). We could retain sufficient players to help groom/support/guide the young Wenty players for the rest of the season. In a sense we would also be using the rest of the season as trials for 2017.
Such a protest would also hurt the NRl, Foxtel News limited (owners of The Telecrap) and Chanel Nine. There seems to be too many vested interests in all of the parties e.g. Chanel Nine and Roosters.
I know we are not blameless in all of this but surely when you look at the rosters of other sides it has been evident that TPAs have been rorted for too long. I realise that such a protest would also hurt our supporters but we really don’t have a season if a harsh penalty is applied.
I must admit I find it incredible that we are in this situation (thanks to club factions), but if the NRL is fair dinkum about creating a level playing field than all clubs need to be audited regularly. As Super Eel pointed out in his very enlightening blog, there has been enough rorting elsewhere without any consequences.
The big irony in all of this is that Parramatta lost a Grand Final in 2009 to a side that was way over the cap.
I say write off the rest of the season and play our Wenty squad in first grade. I’m sure this would not impress the NRL and I don’t even know if such an audacious plan would be possible but it is worth considering.

I know it would hurt but it may be better to lose Foz for the rest of 2016 and have him back for four more years. I don't know if players would have a legal right to walk out on there contracts if our season is a right off. I'm sure Foz and the other new players are pissed off about all that has happened. Foz was warned by Johns and others that he was walking into a 'hornets nest' in signing with the Eels. It would be a huge let down for all the players who have trained their asses off all off season to now have nothing to play for. I just think it might be the best step for the long term future of the club and players, but i do see your point it would hurt.
How about Foran, Norman, Scott and Jennings to Dragons in return for Benji (this season only) and three other good young talents from their twenties for the future. Would a club agree to such a scenario for a shot at the premiership this year?We then get our players back plus some good new young talent to boost our squad for 2017. Just a thought.
I do realise that the NRL would most likely be able to stop such a move anyhow but it may be worth exploring.
This is what happens when supporters begin to suffer from panic attacks.
If we lose points we lose points, take our medicine and play out the year.
It has happened before and will probably happen again. We just need to accept it if it does happen - its looking very likely so just get used to the idea.
You cant do it ian, not only is it not legal but its a great way to hurt the club, fans and game even more.
A bit harsh Brax. It is only an idea, but i can cope with you calling me an idiot. Wouldn't we have more space in the cap as a consequence of releasing players e.g five players go and five come up from Wenty into top 25? As for waiting for the NRL to hand down their verdict i am actually quite confident that we will only lose 4- 6 points not based on any inside info, just a gut feeling. To quote the first words of my blog " If things do turn out for the worst...."
Funny you threw that quote at me" it's better to say nothing and let people think your an idiot then to open your mouth and confirm it" as i once read that on a bumper sticker when i first joined the workforce thirty-five years ago. I have often opened my mouth before thinking and paid the price for it but i do enjoy a good discussion and i am always open to other ideas and opinions.
Bup, we burnt down the stadium in 19981 and look where that got us. That's right... a new stadium.
