Was obviously going to be a problem
I think Corey Norman agrees...
Groundhog Day. Possession is King!!!!!!!!!
Parra - 8 sets from 13 in the first half.
NQL - 16 sets from 19 in the first half. Therefore, NQL completed "double" the sets then us.
At least it wasn't as bad as the Roosters game as they had 4 times more ball then us in the first half.
Parra - 2 penalties first half.
NQL - 6 penalties first half.
The game was over in the first half. No petrol left in the tank at half time.
I know we had some pretty dodgy officials years ago but in those days possession wasn't such a vital component in the game as it is now.
Here I am as a rusted on league supporter thinking that for the first time in 50 odd years... I'm over it. I know how those old footballers feel.
Teams at the bottom of the league like Newcastle will never get the rub of the green like the broncos or roosters do.
I'm sick of the unlevel salary cap playing field, the incompetent referees and the woeful NRL administrators.
The game is a wonderful product, spoiled by the few.
Unfortunately there are no quick fixes. The referees are human and as such are prone to being timid when giants of the game like JT and Cam Smith manipulate the flow.
Fathead I was thinking this last night.
Without doubt we have been pretty damn bog average at times but it doesnt help that the referees have such a large say in the outcome of the game.
Penalties were 6-2 at half time and we were down 14-0 - thats why we were never going to win, the refs decided early that JT needed the win more than Parra.
Interpretation is the problem. The grey areas are too great. Why do some teams get penalised for holding down a player for 6 secs and then the other team can get away with holding down for 10secs?
Why do some teams stay in front of the refs in defense and get away with it yet the opposition get pinged when they do?
Why do some teams get penalised for strips and the other side keep getting away with the exact same thing?
Its just a joke.
One day they will penalise players running others off the ball on bombs and then we never see it again. My contention is that when these obscure interpretations come out they are never against the Roosters etc... I have watched Newcastle this year and they have been ass raped by the referees in basic interpretations, so much so if the Broncos were the recipient there would be a breakaway competition!!
As for Parra, as a middle of the road team we sometimes get the rub and sometimes we don't but as a player it must be soul destroying when you start a match and realise that today - you are getting bent over.
Against the cowboys it was blatantly obvious that it was our turn to be on the nose...hence it would have been a miracle for us to have beaten the cows.
Hard to take for the average punter.
Tigers have got the dropsies and Roosters now kicking away.
Hearing Beau Scott ask the referee in the second half about Thurston "Is he a protected species?' was gold but it also summed up the game. Unfortunately possession is the key to winning footy games, set completions and repeat sets determine results and match officials determine possession!!!
The storm only need minimal ball to win games and their defence (their wrestle) is extremely good. I'm not sure if I am stating the obvious but their fitness levels have been the best in the game for probably the past decade. Therefore, they can do things other teams can't. To beat the sharks without Cronk is an example how strong they are.
