Poppas Corner; views of an optimist and a Unicorn

I'm a true Parrantta supporter, I quite like Ryles as a coach and totally disagree with BEM and his views that everything is laid out on poor coaching..

I do not believe he was fourth choice, ruling out the wish list candidates. I further believe he is the first coach to come out with a vision for the club and its ever undying potential to be better than we are.

I respect BEM as he has a qualified view of the game, just don't agree with him. I also happen to think that Kautoga will one day be a player of some excellence.... so much potential but dumb as dog shit....really only needs to get the dog shit out of his game and he will be an elite edge forward.

Some people on here do not know what potential is and how a player can mature, many of the younger blokes have really only seen playing development at a Parramatta level over the past 20 years or so and given our record there is not a lot to learn from that.

I accept some of the criticism's of his ( Ryles) selections, but that is a subjective opinion and has not yet been rationalised. When we have a properly balanced team then we can be much more objective.

At one stage this year after the first round and theTitans flogging, I thought we could be in a position of not winning a game.....as it turned out with the cattle we had, I feel we did pretty well. Full marks to him and what we we know of his coaching staff. I still do not understand the Riley Smith situation and in general I see our pathway juniors as disappointing and can only think overated. That said Taviti (spell) and Teacum Brown look outstanding prospects, even Twible looked overated as is Ilongi at this point if he doesn't come back better from his injury.

If the 5/8 with all the wraps on him is half as good as they say he would have played first grade by now, people need to understand if you have outstanding ability you go straight to first grade, you don't learn much from Reserve Graders and playing with them.

Moses showed again today that with his loss of pace that he is a solid halfback, but nothing special any more.

The Storm halves would never have let St George get back into the game like we did today. This is the experience and control we lack, at this point in time.

I am disaapointed with what people like Malee57, they piss me off by saying Ryles is a dumb coach.....as if he would have a clue other than being among  some of  the dumbest bastard's on here. Don't worry Malee, you have a few mates! Don't get angry btw of being called amongst the dumb bastards, you called the First Grade Coach that has played 200 games, origin and International football and tutored by two of the best coaches in our history of the game a "dumb coach".....please qualify that objectively and subjectivefully for us.

Its one thing saying how dumb some are, but having some sort of track record in any sport is a foundation to be critical, yes express opinions, but those opinions need some one that is not a member of the inmates running the asylum.

Plenty of others on this site qualify the same way. Just expressing that another way, you can be critical and disappointed but qualifying that needs some subjective appraisal.

I am looking forward to whatever signings we achieve and will reserve my judgement as we evolve, in the interim I remain as "optimistic"as ever a Unicorn!

  • I have never said that Ryles is the only problem but good on ya.

    Bennett knocked us back.

    Madge knocked us back.

We asked Bellamy but he wasn't interested.

    We then signed Ryles.

How exactly is that not fourth choice?

    • When you look at those coaches they were giftrd already elite teams. Bennet showed his true coaching at Newcastle

      • Madge at Tigers and Bellamy knows Storm can cook the books

        • Madge won premierships at Souths and Broncos but won nothing at the Tigers.

Two out of three ain't bad.

          • And do you really think Madge would have made a difference here.

            • lol. Guys won 2 premierships. Granted he's been given decent squads, but I'm sure some dead set pelican on 1EE knows substantially less than he does about the game you flop.

              • And he's never lasted at any club, sacked before his contract is up. The same will happen at the Broncos, imbecile.

                • And yet , he'll still have won two premierships and you'll still be the flop on here pretending like he's the loser .

          • Meatloaf

    • I qualified it by saying "other than a wish list" Madge never knocked us back, he withdrew when he was quietly told he would not get it. Bennett and Belamey were never coming in a hundred years....hence the wish list. You might have asked Jack Gibson reincarnate for the same chances.

Who would you have had as coach given why those 3 never made it.....Hannay? Macdermott (Knights) couple of would be or could be's you know from somewhere......BA did his stint as you agree.....so where is your subjective argument given lets say Ryles was 4th choice, plenty of 12th men have eventually made the Australian cricket team and gone on to great heights, was once being 12th man, not good enough to eventually being picked. Would Ivan Cleary now known as a great become one for reasons that worked for him.....did he not have failings on his way to the top.....just asking for a friend!
