He's a keeper, intelligent footballer who never gives up, plays passionately for the jersey and has no ego.
I'm sure Eels management are aware of all these traits will ensure that he never leaves.-
Good point about the ego Richard, the comparison's with Reed Mahoney are more orientated to similar size but Reed was an out and out ball hog, he overuled Moses so often and his teammates saw it, that's the real reason he had to go. I don't see that sort of bullshit with this kid. Reed also lost us an under 21 Grand Final because of his "hogging".
Its interesting when watching hookers and half backs, Grant would not pass the ball to Moses and favoured Munster or his Qld teamate Dearden's side all the time. When Cleary was playing half to Moses 5/8, Moses hardly saw the ball. Luai on the other hand alway's saw it.
Bullshit exists about the individual competetiveness of some players when protecting their own little "fortresses"
I think Moses realises now how dog eat dog it can be and its what has toughened him up.
Anyone that has been around senior sport, regardless of the code, this happens all the time.

I'm waiting for Carlo to rip you a new one Pops. She hates his name being spelt wrong. I know as i've felt her wrath. lol
It's spelt Ryley, there you go Carlo, I've been converted. haha

Thanks Bluey, I just went through and corrected the title pages.
You are right about Carlo, she has ripped me so many times, I don't think a new one will help. When she put's the black leather's and boots and the whip come's out I'm in big trouble.....the only consolation it doesn't last long because Chiefy is usually in line and can't wait for his turn! LOL
A good mate of mine who played first grade cricket with our club and was a real bikie type, 6'4 Tatts and the works once confided in me, Poppa I have met some tough hombres in my time and the only one I have ever been scared of is your wife!
At this point in time let me say Carlo knows my wife and I don't think anyone would want to fight Carlo as she is pretty similar to my wife, yes they trained with each other.....the mistress and the apprentice LOL

Your a good man TolE, any one that knows as much about history as you do, has to have a bit of mongrel in him. That said I think you need to get a bit older before we can call you an "old bastard" having a bit of mongrel in you is stage one, its a natural progression to be an old bastard, when you get to my age its "silly old bastard" its all downhill for me from here on mate!

In our well-justified praise of Ryley Smith, there is a big thing being missed: his ability to read the game and footy IQ.
He is a couple of plays ahead and anticipating every move both in defence, primarily at present, but also in setting up the attack.
He is remarkably intelligent as a footballer, and I suspect he is smart off field as well.
Just watch how he puts himself in position to harass the kicker when the opposition are on the 4th and 5th tackle.
Just watch the way he reads the fullback and wingers positioning to kick for field position and game management. He might not be nailing those 40-20s yet, but don't be surprised if he does soon enough.
His elite cricketing skills would help. It's not just about peripheral 360-degree vision on a cricket wagon wheel. It's about space.
When he is on-field we seem so much more organised.
I feel somewhat sorry for poor young TDS who is being compared to him, and whilst he is a handy and promising player, he is not in the same league as our Ryley.
Ryley is a born leader.
Now before I get more excited about what I am saying, stop, and think: Who does he remind you of?
No, not Reed Mahoney. He is "steam roller fodder" in comparison. This kid stands up to the biggest forwards and still downs them.
He is not particularly fast. He hardly misses a tackle. He can kick. And manages to find himself in the right place at the right time.
Any more guesses? That's right, Cameron Smith. The GOAT! He is exactly the same style of player.
We have something special with this young man.
Ryley Smith opens up in a broad-ranging interview with SEN Radio, 2 December 2025.
