Pocket Referee Debacle

Why doesn’t the main referee, referee the whole game?

Im hating the swapping of refs, from pocket referee to main and vice versa.

Last night was no different, most of the 50/50 calls against Parramatta was made by the pocket ref and it changed the momentum of the game on 3 occasions.

Dont get me wrong the last 15mins killed us with the drop balls, but just maybe it would have been game over earlier if we had the rub of the green.

  • I think you'll find that in most games the lead ref is in control for about 70% of the game. I hate two refs, and last nights refs blew more penalties than were warranted, but I don't think it was the pocket ref in isolation who called them all.

    • Did you see the two refs arguing if it should a scrum penalty?

      • Nah, I didn't see that

  • I have watched just about every game so far this season with the exception of 1 or 2, the standard of refereeing has been by far the best it has been for a very long time apart the the Warriors V Manly game today, both referees were terrible and seemed to be confused for the entire game, luckily it didn't have an impact on the result.

  • The refereeing in the NRL is at an all time low and has been for years. They should have 1 referee and get rid of the bunker. The major issue with the current refereeing is they are no longer held accountable and can basically swing games and get away with it.

  • The ref's have improved big time this year. Some clangers last night with the ambo try  Knock on before another and a blatant forward pass that was that bad latrell actually stopped for a split second

  • Good to see less penalties. May it continue. However, the knock on interpretations are confusing and frustrating. It seems as if the ball bobbles and the player retains possession its a knock on. Sometimes. Parra were the recipients of a couple of wrong, not even dubious, calls and it cost us dearly. Happens in every game.
