Mahoney is similar in some ways to Smith; no thank and he is not worth the $$$
Our backs will be ok once Simmo back and some reggies kick on; one or two forwards with zest will help. We held C'buty for 60 mins but did not play composed footy; Brown and Moses needed to lead more for me; and lets be clear we have lost Matterson / RCG / Offa / Carty and Lane out of the pack and while I am good with it the forwards need a year or two with some added depth. Maybe one more back up hooker or someone who can help Smith out.
Mahoney will not come to us for less and personally no thanks.
Issue with big Dave is that he has not fired under a few coaches...that is a concern.
Mahoney is a different style of Hooker compared to Smith. Mahoney is more creative and has a better pass. Smith is cleaner as a player in terms of defence, but against Dogs there were a few passes that were very ordinary early on. He is a good Hooker, but Mahoney has other areas of this game he does better than Smith. Vice versa.
As for money, well Dogs will pitch in for 2026 but after that i do not think he has much of a choice as not many teams are gonna go for him purely since they have a Hooker.
I feel a lot of people just say no and justify it for other reasons when deep down are still scarred by him leaving to go to Canterbury when he was offered an extra year and $100-150k more a year and captaincy. That is a good deal wouldn't you say? Instead i was more pissed at the club for letting him walk.

Personally mate I am not scarred by him but do not think he was anything special and we have not lost through Smith. Smith can and will only get better and he wants to be with us and is not forced to be with Parra. We only want players who wish to be here for me.
Mahoney will probably head back north for me. I think you are forgetting that when Mahoney started he played with more experienced players around him; Smith has not had this. We will see what eventuates

Has the boat sailed for Reed Mahoney? He walked out of a club that wanted him. Ha walked out & went back to a club that ditched him & now he dumped again. After Monday mistake riddled game, is he an option? Just asking! I was super pissed when he left, but if he did come back having two quality 9's can only help the team.
