Reports are beginning to surface that Phil Gould is believed to be shopping veteran play-maker James Maloney just 1-year into his 3-year deal with the Panthers.
Maloney, 32, joined the Panthers at the end of the 2017 season, in effectively what was a player swap between himself and Matt Moylan.
The 32-year-old is also a proven winner at every club he goes to. Maloney guided the Warriors to a rare grand final appearance in 2011, just his second season with the club.
His impact was even more instant at the Roosters, helping them to a premiership in his first season in 2013, and achieving the same feat with the Sharks in 2016.
But it is understood that it is his defence that has Phil Gould willing to welcome offers for the veteran play-maker. Maloney led the league in missed tackles in 2018, missing 160 tackles, Ben Hunt came in second with 122 missed tackles.

With the long-term signing of Nathan Cleary, salary cap space for the Panthers is beginning to become tight and off-loading Maloney and his estimted $825k salary will help ease that strain.
It is believed Super League clubs have been making discrete inquiries about the possibility of bringing Penrith Panthers half-back James Maloney over.
The 32-year-old’s wage demands would see Super League clubs having to make him their marquee signing. It is understood that the Panthers and Phil Gould would not stand in his way if he decided to break his contract and make a move to England.

He was being professional, if someone is willing to take either of those two off our hands he would let them take them.
The club should of signed him instead of that clown Foran.
At 32 I wouldn't touch him with a barge pole.
Yeah I know the Sharks weren't too happy with his effort in 2017, he played like he didn't give a rats. But his body will on continue to get worse as well.
This is exactly the bloke we needed years ago, he'd be better than anything we have regardless of his age
I would have him as a bridging halfback for a year maybe two but as long as he quits origin footy.
I would sign him in a heartbeat and balance the roster accordingly
