The NRL has no choice but to strip Parramatta of points if they are guilty of cheating the salary cap, insists NSW Origin captain Paul Gallen.Gallen is no stranger to controversy, having become the face of Cronulla’s supplements scandal, and while he said he feels for the players, he believes the Eels must be penalised.Parramatta Eels: NRL investigating invoices related to player payments - reportsRead more“It’s looking like they’re going to lose points and unfortunately that’s the way it’s got to be,” Gallen told Sky Sports Radio’s Big Sports Breakfast.“I don’t feel sorry for them in that department, no one has felt sorry for us with what we went through.”AdvertisementParramatta were hit with a four-point suspended penalty last season for breaching all four caps, however a governance review ensured they did not lose the points ahead of the 2016 season. However as evidence of alleged systematic rorting of third-party deals continue to emerge, Gallen believes the NRL’s punishment will be far heavier.“Four competition points doesn’t put them out of the semis,” Gallen said.“I think the question is going to be by the NRL ‘do they want Parramatta playing semi-final football after everything that has gone on?’“I think the answer is probably no, and they’re going to strip them of a lot more.”Gallen’s views come on the same day News Corp reports suggested Parramatta board members had failed to tell the NRL of suspicions that former CEO Scott Seward had tried to set up illegal third-party deals.Parramatta Eels avoid NRL points deduction for salary cap indiscretionsRead moreFailure to pass this information on would be a break of the NRL’s code of conduct.Gallen also believes the game needs to go after the administrators responsible for the current mess.“We were put through (the ASADA) situation by our club and the club have put Parramatta in this situation,” Gallen said.“I think there should be some individuals, whether it’s at management level, who know about this and they should have to pay for it.”Gallen also suggested that it would be impossible for the Parramatta players to avoid the ongoing speculation around their season.

  • Asked if he could come here last year and was knocked back i heard (know) so theres the real story ,never forgiven us for not wanting him as a junior , l also i believe we are playing within salary cap this season so no aspersions towards players should be given out especially by a mental giant of gallens proportions , just sour grapes paul towards a club that never wanted your kind !!!
