Parramatta Legends 'squad'

In the office at home I sit and look at my Parramatta Legends sigend jersey (number 76 of 1000), and smile at the memories these players have afforded us all. The team must have been finalised around 2000, as Dean Pay is the 'youngest' serving player, retiring in 1999.

Would any player since 2000 make a Parramatta legends 'squad' of 17 were it to be named in 2010? Granted, the orignial Legends team was a starting 13 only, as substitutes played a game in reserves and were generally only used in cases of injury and severe fatigue - it was a 13 man game back then.

The Parramatta Legends team is:

1. Ken Thornett

2. Eric Grother (Snr)

3. Michael Cronin

4. Steve Ella

5. Neville Glover

6. Brett Kenny

7. Peter Sterling

13. Ray Price

12. Peter Wynn

11. Dick Thornett

10. Bob O'Reilly

9. Steve Edge

8. Dean Pay

So, with all seriousness, do any post 2000 Eels deserve to be in the Parramatta Legends squad?

Hindmarsh is a definite. Personally, my favourite player in the immediate aftermath of Superleague was Jason Smith. Who else do you think could be considered for a legends squad position? Paul Carige has requested not to be considered for selection.

This is our 'Legends' team, so who do you think shoud be the four substitiutes we would hypothetically add to the 2010 Legends 'squad' to reflect the 'modern era'?

And for those of us who still use a computer to contribute to this forum, is there anyway of performing a spell check prior to posting a forum or reply on your PC on 1Eyed Eel?

  • Hindmarsh is there for sure. But I can't really comment, was born in 1990.
  • No spell check that I know of - but I am teknologickally challenged.
  • Neville Glover pleeeeeeease, i was only 9 at the time but i still remember the 76 grandfinal and that dropped pass with the try line wide open. Neil Hunt and Greame Atkins were way better wingers than Glover.
  • Cayless for sure. Probably luke Burt too.
  • Hindmarsh I know of no other!!!!!!!!
    • Cayless deserves at least a bench spot, and Hayne would be edging and edging ever so close.

      My bench would be:
      14.Cayless
      15.Hindmarsh
      16.Burt?
      17.Hayne
    • no the bloke who used us twice to get fat contracts :(
  • Mark Tookey! took took took!
  • I would have Grothe (Jnr) or Burt over Glover
    Hindmarsh over Wynn
    Cayless over Pay

in a few seasons you could pick Hayne over Thornett

Keep in mind the eels have made the grand final 2 times in the 2000's and none in the 90's

I know Dean Pay was a top player but he only played 4 years for us.
Cayless is a walk up start IMO over pay
Hell, you could even Pick Fui Fui over pay!
    • LOL, Hayne over Thornett, your a funny fella!

""Chance is mist" is a really appropriate typo/autocorrect. The chance just goes pfft, evaporates into nothing. Not sure Dylan B has got the mix right this year, more often passing when he should run or running when he should pass. "
