Parramatta enter the race for Trey Mooney

Bring him home. Former Parramatta junior and current Canberra Raiders Prop, Trey Mooney, has been targeted by Parramatta, along with St. George Illawarra and Newcastle. Nice young forward, leg speed and potential. Thoughts?

  • Its a big yes from me, he can play lock, prop, edge would be a handy pick up, his stats in cup this year have been very good, he definitely would be in the 17 next year.

  • Not that excited to be honest.

Again, it looks like we want to make sure we win the NSW Cup next year.

If he is signed, I will support the decision and hope he turns out to be a very good FG player.

    • The thing you want to see mainly is how are they in Cup? I know stats aren't everything but he is dominant. He makes big metres, does a lot of work and plays big minutes. Plus this year for Canberra, they have not had a lot of injuries, limited opportunities to be picked this year. Question is though when there is an opportunity why is Noah Martin chosen over Mooney? Is it that Martin can play on an edge better than Mooney who has primarily been a middle for Canberra?

He is only 24 next year, hitting his prime, can play on an edge if needed and could be a late bloomer. I mean look at Luca Moretti, debuted at 23, now 25 and hitting his form. Shaun Lane debuted at 21, came to us at 25 and that is where he started performing.

      Sometimes just opportunity.

      • Yep Martin is selected because he covers edge better. Mooney is purely a middle these days

  • Havent seen much of the bloke, is he/will he be any good?

  • Big yes from me

  • Would be a good starting prop or off the bench. Big strong body with a decent engine. Hope he comes. The other clubs listed are in a much worse position. Might come down to dollars though and I doubt JR will overspend.

    • I don't get that perception, I think Ryles is quiet astute in valuing a player. Young Mooney was always was one that saw the light.

He is a thinker and a leader, the experience he has gained in this Canberra resurgence is extremely valuable for his career.

      • The more I watch his highlights the more I hope he lands at Parra. He bends the line and runs without fear off a kick off. Has some slick hands too. He is the mould JR is looking for. Agreed on your points too.

Tuivita can miss out at full strength. Injuries will happen so he will still get plenty of NRL game time. My big thing for Tuivita is that he went straight from JF to NRL. That's such a hard thing for a young prop. Playing the hardest position on the field without developing first in nsw cup. Honestly think spending time there next year will be good development for him. Can develop an offload and footwork near the line.
