Parramatta's week from hell has taken another turn for the worse with consistent centre Tom Opacic set to quit the club to play in Super League.

Several British clubs are chasing the 27-year-old centre, with Hull KR leading the way.

Opacic isn't a game breaker but is a steady player who has been in Brad Arthur's top team for most of the season.

Defence is his hallmark. He wasn't playing in Monday's 34-4 loss to the Bulldogs and it showed, with Canterbury carving up the Eels' defence out wide.

Opacic scored a try in NSW Cup last weekend and has been included in the 22-man squad to meet the Roosters on Saturday night.

Opacic began his career with the Broncos in 2016 but two shoulder reconstructions saw him play little first grade there.

He switched to the Cowboys in 2019 and played in the club's successful NRL Nines squad the following year.

Last year he joined the Eels and has been a fairly regular member of the top side but is coming off contract.

  • I'm a big fan of Opacic's but he's got to look after himself. BTW he was awful in Reggies last week, but then again so was everybody.

    • Good point to make straight up. Otherwise you'd have a bunch of people on here suggesting the coach should have picked him first grade to fix all our problems.

    • Maybe if the coach wasn't in the sheds icing his hamstring that may have helped. I mean seriously this isn't U16's hire a coach and not one that's a mate.

  • Opacic has been a great serviceman for us, done what he has been told to do, been dropped and brought back in a few times, never kicked stones.

He was bad in NSW cup and unfortunately he will never be a consistent starting centre in the NRL, but he is a handy squad player to have.

  • Im not a fan. He did the job for us after the Jennings saga but as a center he has limited attacking abilities.  Back up players should come from within.  Good luck in super league.

    • Heard the dogs have signed a gun centre from Parra U20's.

      • Bulldogs have signed talented Parramatta centre Michael Gabrael

  • So is this effective immediately or at season end?

  • Like rats from a sinking ship.

Good on him. If he can get a first grade gig elsewhere why stay at this loser club.

    • why are you still here if, maybe go with frankie and join the roosters cheer squad. Aren't they doing well in 2022.

"Eels v knights is also a big draw card but we usually only get them once and it's at Newcastle 9-10 times.
When the draw is un-even in relation to how many times teams play other teams there needs to be some fairness involved.  I can't see why the…"
