I very recently returned from a 4 week holiday in Poland. The day before I flew out, I got myself an apartment in Warsaw; as I wanted to visited the Uprising Museum (I strongly recommend going there, if you are ever in Warsaw, the museum is amazing). As I was walking to the museum, I had to stop at a set of traffic lights, on the other side of the road walking my way was an older gentleman wearing a Parramatta eels jersey (I think it was an early 2000 style jersey; as it had the different eels logo and ASICS brand on the front). As we crossed paths, I pointed to his jersey and gave him a big thumbs up, he smiled and said 'go parra' (with a heavy polish accent).
Has anybody else encountered another parra supporter in a spot you would never of thought?

Yep. Main square of Toulouse (FRA). Having a brew in an outdoor cafe when an Eels jersey comes into view. My quick yell of "Go the EELS" was followed by several more ales with this Eels fan.
He apparently lived in Sydney for a few years about 5 years ago.
Walking through st ives woolies in my parra training singlet - one of the shelf packers said go the eels - who would have though on the north shore
My best sighting was in the incredibly posh Harrods store in London. Walking through (could not even afford a pair of socks from there) I spotted a bloke in an Eels jersey. We exchanged "Go Parras" to the bewilderment of the passing crowds
The Mrs is Polish (moved over with her family when she was a teenager) and we spend quite a bit of time there. I will often buy Eels merchandise as gifts to friends and family. During the year if i happen to do any Op-Shop shopping i will pick up any Eels jerseys cheap and take overseas to hand out. They love their sports the Poles and gifts like that go a long way to winning over all of the Uncles haha- In exchange they feed me mass amounts of Bootleg Vodka!
It's nice to see others enjoying Eastern Europe as well, Western Europe in comparison these days is a fekkin toilet bowl, last time we were in France for one day (supposed to be 5), Germany for 2 days (supposed to be 7). We ended up spending some more time in Poland with family instead and also even having to pay a cancellation fee, deducted from our refund it was more than enough to cover more up-market accommodation in Poland, Croatia, Serbia and the Czech Republic. If anyone likes to go to Thailand or Bali because of how cheap it is, do yourself a favour and head to Eastern Europe, things aren't quite as cheap however there is no open sewerage and no power lines touching your head as you walk past. There is also way more to see and do.
Brax mate, i hope you had fun at the Uprising Museum, and if you are ever heading back and after a couple of great places to go more away from the heavily tourist populated areas just let me know. You would be shocked at just how much cheaper everything is, and in just about all cases much better quality. We're heading back in August for a cousins wedding and I cannot wait- neither can the Fiance, shes going to go Wedding Dress Shopping with her Mum and Maid of honour- it will cost me a quarter of the price so I'm happy. Its just a damn shame i cant buy all of the alcohol there as it is so cheap. When we win the lottery we're heading straight over there- just trying to live there on their wage would be shite.
Mate, I married a polish lady (she and her family came over here in the late 80s...we actually dated at high school lol). She and my daughter are still over there, they fly in next week. Mate I love the place, her dads family is still in Krakow (literally next-door to Wawel castle) and her mums family live in Wroclaw. We spent a week at Zakopane (I love that ski resort/town),....a 5 night stay in the penthouse apartment cost yes $500(Aus) and we also hired out an apartment in the forest near a ski resort on the Poland/Czech border over NYE (4 nights cost us $420 Aus). My wife, daughter and I were out every day for dinner (at 3pm lol) and a 3 course meal plus wine/beer/drinks etc...max we paid was $65.
When you pay only 90c (Aus) for a 500ml can of beer, how can you not love it. And the food.......Jesus Christ, I feel in love with Kapusniak (sauerkraut soup with spare ribs in it) the food is amazing. And the vodka......premium vodka over there is so smooth, I was doing that many shots with her uncles and relos lol. While my wife was shopping or catching up with old friends, I was visiting all the military museums, castles, battlefields etc around Krakow and Wroclaw. We are now looking at buying a 2 bedroom apartment in the centre of Wroclaw that over looks the town square. My wife goes back each year, I normally head over every 4 to 5 years
I agree with your views on Western Europe, I did France, Germany a few years ago...besides the battlefields in France, the rest of western Europe did not amuse me...and by Christ its expensive.
as a pree teen my best mate was polish .beautiful family
In my travels to Poland I was surprised that there were still some polish people there, they seem to have infiltrated everywhere. I can confirm thought that there are a healthy contingent of poles still there.
i completely understand the difference in values- you would almost think that we were the economically disadvantaged country when you compare the differences in etiquette between us. We eat at least 1-2 polish dishes a week and it’s become my favourite meal of the week easily...
im currently engages and have we have our engagement party this weekend. I’ve flown the Mrs maid of honour who still lives in Opole (Poland) as a surprise. It went down a treat and I’ve got the relationship equivalent of diplomatic immunity for at least a year I would imagine. We’re doing a pretty traditional sort of party and wedding. It’s been hard finding a venue that will allow us to be able to stay until 6am the next morning but we have and the future father in law has about 60L of bootleg vodka to unleash on some poor unsuspecting aussies haha!
