Parra offer Hoppa "unders" to remain an Eel

From SMHhttp://m.smh.com.au/rugby-league/league-news/parramatta-offer-william-hopoate-unders-to-stay-an-eel-20151017-gkbn7k.htmlBy DANIEL LANEParramatta is said to have advised NSW Origin star William Hopoate the best he could hope to earn should he decide to play for the club in 2016 is a deal worth $200,000 – hundreds of thousands of dollars less than he signed a contract for that's being disputed in the NSW Supreme Court.Fairfax Media understands that Hopoate's legal representative, Julieanne Levick, was advised if he decided to leave the Eels to play for another NRL, or even an English Super League team, he would receive no compensation. The Eels were also said to have ruled out making any payments towards his contract at another NRL club – should he receive an offer before the start of the new season. It's understood Hopoate will follow on with the legal battle which started when the Eels were accused of attempting to change the terms – and the fee – of the contract he signed after months of protracted negotiations with the club's former chief executive, Scott Seward. The club failed to register the contract Hopoate signed before Seward resigned from his position. When Hopoate's barrister proceeded to take action she told Fairfax Media the deal Hopoate had signed was "valid and enforceable".The club's deal with marquee recruit Kieran Foran came close to being terminated when Parramatta wanted to change the structure of the contract he'd signed.Foran's four-year deal, which was worth $4.8 million for him to leave Manly at the end of 2015, was compromised but the New Zealand international decided at the eleventh hour to honour a mutually agreed deal for an abridged agreement.Levick has previously challenged the notion Parramatta proposed to Smith that Seward was acting beyond the powers of his office – he was the chief executive – when he put the offer to Hopoate.Hopoate was said to have rejected offers from rival clubs while he negotiated the deal with Parramatta because he wanted to stay with the Eels.

  • 200k is spot on.
I doubt if he'll ever play origin again. How weak must our wing stocks be for Lozza to go with this turtle.
  • Personally I hope he takes it, he is still better than most of our backups. Hoppa and Gutherson would be a good combo on the right side. He did get an injury and carried it through the back end of the season and with a good pre season and no Origin he could turn it around. Also with Gordon chiming in, like a true Fullback should, I think this will help Hoppa's game.

Well he CAN stay with the Eels.... on $200k per season.

  • He should be on the same money as Ryan Morgan

  • Id say 200K is hoppas worth, wouldnt mind him stay on that

  • I hope he stays for $200,000- 250,000. I get why he is asking for more because we were stupid enough to pay him overs before but that was when we were desperate for anyone. Now we have the start of a team that can push the top 8 hope he gets to be great he needs to take less.
    • He'd also just won a premiership in a star studded backline.
200k is probably slight unders but if he really wants to play with Foran and remain an eel he will have to take it?
      Hope he does personally.
If he remains injury free, forgets origin and bulks up a bit he will be ok. The bloke does ooze class just hasn't shown much talent ;)
  • Ron and Chief, spot on with those comments. He's done little in two years.
  • He wants to sue the club-but then still play for the club...!makes sense!
    • I may be wrong but I think this "sue the club" is probably manager driven. Hoppa wouldn't think of staying at the Eels if it was his anger.
