The Eels have had problems at hooker since Reed Mahoney went to the Bulldogs but may have snared the long-term answer to filling the number nine jersey.

The club has beaten several other NRL outfits to sign boom young Queensland hooker Jack Hudson.

The 19-year-old - who specialises in darting out of dummyhalf like elite hookers Harry Grant and Api Koroisau - played in the Tweed Seagulls team that won this year's Mal Meninga Cup, beating Burleigh Bears 36-12 in the final.

He also played against grown men in the Queensland Cup and that sent alarm bells to NRL scouts, who all had their eyes on him before the Eels won the race for his signature.

The youngster from renowned league nursery Keebra Park on the Gold Coast is one to watch over the next couple of years.

  • He will be starting in flegg I recon. Will probably share minutes wiht Coinakis there (who will start in SG ball)

    • Thats great news Mick, sounds very exciting that tag team later in the season EA

    • Why start in Flegg when already played Qcup.  He will start in NSW cup most likely or maybe a smoky for the bench.  Can't be worse then Lussick.  Also if his strength is running from dummy half that is what we need. A bench hooker should be able to exploit tired forwards and Lussick can't do that.

  • I was told a couple of weeks ago we'd signed a dummy half I was hoping it was Brailey from the knights but looks like this is the signing. Young but heaps of potential from the look of it

    • Yea the signing was announced by his agency a while back.

  • Great future signing but it doesn't help our issues at hooker now.

    • Where the farkkk is all the money? Gutho gone RCG gone, in return bargain basement signing in JAC, it doesn't add up.

      • front end contracts is the worst scenario until a quality player is available

    • We're still in the market for a hooker. But there aren't many available. All well and good to have the money, but the player has to be available.

"The only experienced player in reserve grade that has been performing is Matto. If you watch Carty he has been playing far worse than Guymer, Kautoga, Tuilagi, etc"

"Yep accurate assessment on what we expect of Russel. He is doing his job as the back up outside back. We all know he goes to reserve grade at full strength.
Yea surprisingly Kautoga actually seemed the most comfortable out of everyone with the catch…"

"Or the training surfaces?
Damage could be done during sessions then during the games it just goes over the edge from aggrivated to full-blown injury
It'd be something an exercise physiologist would be able to narrow down"
