Keep your hands off it. It’s happened to Parra before - GF vs Knights. The team have beaten themselves up about the Penrith game and are anxious to atone. Trouble is they have played the game in their heads and have become too anxious and used energy supplies in doing so. It is extremely difficult for a coach to recognise the condition. It is a psychological situation with physical consequences. Despite the players intention to play great footie the individual and team are flat because of the energy expenditure and nothing seems to work. Accentuated by no ball in the first 10 min in 40 deg heat. I don’t agree with BA that it was an effort problem. It was the complete reverse. Doing a long warm up in heat was a bad idea and made the overarrousal worse. In saying that - go Brad. Live and learn.
Apart from that all credit to Manly. Everything they did turned to gold.
The fact that our supposed supporters draw there ignorant daggers so early in the season is pathetic. Please find another team.
I hope to see the true believers at ANZ on Sat
go Eels

Isn’t that just a male thing generally ....
they are big boys n should be used to it by now
You know the truth
According to BA it was a 17 min warm up, hardly a long one, and the heat in the dressing rooms were hotter than outside. I think this weeks game v the sharks will tell us a lot about the mental and physical capacity of this team. A good 80 min performance will show we can fight back from this. Another soft performance will show we are mentally shot and a fight back is highly unlikely.
I didn't see the warm up, but any good trainer will be able to tell when the players are getting stressed during a drill, and should give them time to recover. I think this is a non-issue. I think it is all mental and now that they are aware of what is going on they should be able to climb out of it. Agreed though that win or lose, we need to put up a much better performance this weekend.
so john you are blaming the heat again are you manly played in that game to and I think and I think south and the warriors game played in Perth I think and I bet it was not cold there but are they jumping up and down about the heat did they NO
No not merely the heat but the lack of early possession in the heat!
^^I second this John...cannot underestimate the effect of the mind on the body...I've noticed some panicky behaviour occurring after a few things go wrong in a game for the boys....and the errors tend to follow on from there right? Reactive rather than proactive.....I read somewhere that the Warriors have been working on the psychological side of things in their game in recent months which has clearly paid off. Perhaps similar is needed for our guys? They should come up with solutions to every possible scenario (I am talking solutions for situations like what happened on the weekend, not general game plan solutions) prior to games and then when something goes wrong, all take a deep breath and execute the pre-prepared solution. If I had any say in what the Eels were concentrating on right now, I would work on the psychological stuff....but that is my professional background so I guess I may see things more through that lense eh?
Anyone who thinks they aren't feeling this loss is wrong. I know one of them quite well and I can assure you they are heart sick about it. I have a lot of faith in the team and know they will come out fighting this weekend. Best thing we can do as supporters is turn out in big numbers and put our voices behind them. I know I would hate to be judged so harshly on one of my bad days at work where I am not at my best professionally. Ease up people, they need the support...

Dito AJ.
It is quite obvious that there are a numbers of contributors on this site who have an agenda whether it is to undermine players, the coaching staff or the club in general. Admittedly, they have every right to voice their opinion(s) but it seems after a big loss (especially), they tend to rule this site and influence (negatively) the blog traffic.
I don't have to give examples as it is quite obvious who they are and their favourite whipping boys.
Negativity towards the boys is just pointless and helps no-one. We fly into Sydney on Sat morning (we live in QLD and travel to games). I'm going to be making some signs for the game once we get there (a hassle to take signs on Jetstar as evidenced by my Darwin debacle last year ha ha). You going to the game Axel? Should be a good arvo/night
