Our shitty recruitment

I know this is old news but this is my first blog I don't understand when you lose the likes of hayne you would think the next best thing would be RTS yet we went and spent more money for a bloke that has imo 1 good year left on a 3 year deal when I think RTS will go on to be one of the best in the comp in the nxt couple years and he wouldn't even cost more the ScottYet we lose a superstar fullbackAnother superstar fullback is on the market and we don't even think twice about itBut we go and offer 32 yearly old has berms at the end of there carreer 3 year deals. • Welcome to blogging boss.
You can be interested in players but not be able to secure them. For example, certain clubs can offer third party deals or other incentives. Players may wish to play closer to family.
RTS is probably not the best example. The Warriors have secured him over plenty of others clubs, so you'd assume that other factors are at play.
As for our recruitment, it has been very specific.
    Kicker needed - done
    Fullback needed - done
    Organising half needed - done
    Leadership needed - done
    Outside backs needed - happening
New second tier players needed - done and happening
As for ages, we are actually a young team, in both age and relative experience. In adding experienced players, we help to transition our younger blokes into being better NRL players.
    • Outside backs happening like him 60s boy... Are we talking to idris and Munster...at the expense of Hoppa???
  • In my opinion Boss, RTS has really come on SINCE his signing with the Warriors. You can offer all the money in the world also but he is a super passionate NZ bred kid and it's his dream to play for them, even if you have the money to table a competitive offer.
He will be great for them. Gordon is playing outstanding footy and our plan I'm told is to get 2 good years out of him as we grade French into first grade.
Overall I think it's pretty astute of the Eels.
  • We had a crap TEAM when we had Hayne mate. The days of spending a massive amount on a fullback are gone.
Warriors will learn this as Souths are.
We didn't go much worse than last year without Hayne and the new recruits will ensure we are well on the way to having a talented TEAM and not just a talented fullback.
It will be the first time in years.
    • I am not how you can say this when Souths just won their first premiership in 4 decades. They won the premiership!!

    • Agreed, after Big Burgess left
    • Agree Sam Burgess was their star player they miss him this year.
  • We don't need to replace Hayne with someone close to his ability and cash otherwise we just go back to relying on the one player again like we have the last 4 5 years. Buying Foran and guys around him like Scott and Gordon and also having Norman and semi and a good pack we are a good all round team and won't rely on the just the 1
Player to win us games or step up when it's needed.
  • Hey Boss,

RTS is a Kiwi - he wanted to go home and he wanted to play for the Warriors, and they were able to pay him the money he wanted. He was never actually on the open market so to speak and thus wasn't actually a target opportunity for any other NRL clubs, including us.

Had he placed himself on the open market he would have fielded at least 5 or 6 highly competitive offers from other clubs.

He would be safely locked up with The Roosters had he wanted to stay in Sydney.

Based on our current needs, as outlined by Sixties, Gordon is probably our best option at this point in time - I think he will prove very good for us. Maybe not spectacular - but certainly solid.

    Cheers mate.

    • Hopefully that wasn't the Kiss of Death, Kram
