  • Honestly, I really hope the rumours aren't true. This signing is up there with Morgan Harper and Ben Roberts, a truly fucking horrendous decision here from Ryles.

    • Firstly, well done calling out Ryles as well if this signing is true as some here wont admit it. But also there would be a lot here hoping and praying he does sign so they can continue to criticise as it is more fun.

      • My sources are saying Ryles asked for x y and b, but the people negotiating the contracts couldn't sell water in the Sahara desert so they ended up having to spend on dud players as usual to get to 95% of the total cap

        • Oh of course they have. Wouldn't that be the same for BA then? But you never replied when i asked why Ryles gets a pass on recruitment but BA did not?

And they do not only sign fringe players to get 95% but they front load deals as well. So for example is Iongi is owed say $500k in 2027, we can give him $200k of that this year, take it off the 2026 cap and we have an extra $200k next year. It is a very common practice, used a lot to meet the requirements of 95% and they extend players to do so they have an extra year or so to spread out the salaries. Hence the Iongi example since he is signed til 2030. Also, they can offer players an extra bit of money. They did so to Papali'i in 2022, giving him an extra $100k that is left in the cap. They do that to meet requirements of 95% and also as a sweetener to keep players. So if we are $200k over 95%, we could just give Iongi and Volkman for example an extra $100k each for this year.

but of course you probably did not know that since it doesn't fit the narrative that Ryles is a saint that never does anything wrong, i really like him by the way but he has had some dud signings like Pezet, you funnily enough you refuse to mention as it is a Ryles signing and De Belin too.

Seems Ryles did get some of what he wanted and they have failed. Our best signings in the time of Ryles are Iongi and Walker. Do you know who spearheaded those? Rogers spearheaded the Iongi deal, MON thought of Walker and worked it out with Webster who he knew from Wests days and got the deal done reletively quick as though homesickness was claimed there was more to it where Walker needed to leave NZ and quickly.

Now again i do agree MON should go as i feel he is not doing a great job, but to say Ryles has done nothing wrong and all the good things are him is completely false and a fallacy. He has done a lot of good things, some impressive things. Moving on Gutho and RCG early was risky but was the right call. He also has made some poor choices with recruitment as mentioned JDB and Pezet. Now yeah elements of recruitment with MON and Rogers have let him down, absolutely. But also, he got two players of his choice as well and they have not worked.

The bad can be a collective, not equal but all play a part in someway. The same with the positives. Also, what if Suli is someone Ryles wants and MON is getting him? Can i ask that Chief and please have an answer. What if Ryles wants Suli as a bigger body in back 5 for argument sakes? What would your response be then if Ryles was the orchestrator of the Suli deal? Considering we have got 2 players from Saints already and Ryles is besties with Ben Creagh, woudl not surprise me this is a Ryles signing too.

          • Very well said, LB

          • The only way Suli is coming is if Ryles wants it. If he doesn’t, it won’t happen. Full stop. Sauces Mauces.

It’s all utter speculation anyway. Not sure why there is so much panic. It reminds me of the Paul Vaughan rumours that many got worked up about. It was utter bollocks.

Personally, I think Jenkins, Alomati or Bostock are more worthwhile targets if big fish like the Hammer or Herbie are just not realistic. But I’ll respect Ryles’ view over mine or any of ours.

At the end of the day, we’re all guessing from the outside. Ryles and the R&R staff are the ones sitting in the meetings, watching the tapes or whatnot, weighing up the options, cap considerations and deciding what the roster actually needs.

Ryles has the final say. Full stop. And I think that's the way it should be.

            • Yes HOE, great point on Vaughan. I remember the hysteria over that. But yes that is the thing a few people miss is that yeah MON's job is to get players for Ryles, Ryles has final say. If MON comes to him says "What about this player?" Ryles can say no.

  • Only one person who is usually wrong has suggested we have looked at him. Im not stressing.

    • Good point. Doesn't mean he is wrong but we all mentioned he said Galvin was all but done. He mentioned NSW leaks and were way off, same as Hooper. There are others where he mentioned he heard this and was not the case.
He says "75% done" to save face, as if it falls over or doesn't happen he will say "I said 75% done".

Again, it could be true. But no other outlets are running with it.

  • Can we stop with the whole "New signing" thing until it is announced otherwise mentioned by another outlet? Why haven't others ran with it if Kenty has? His track record is rubbish.

Once he signs, if he is to, then go for your life.

I believe we have Jenkins, but i havent gone on saying "Our new signing". Funny how it is the bad signing rumours the ones people latch onto more.
