I need some of our cup watchers to tell me why this squad keeps winning games despite half our first grade roster being released lol ? Lot of our current nrl side could be in cup if we had the nrl players to use. Do we have that much depth in our pathways that it just doesn't matter ? Twiddale Volkman really unbeatable ? Club gets a lot of hate for retention but something must be working in those lower grades

It's interesting I had a look at last years results in NSW cup to see if there was any correlation to NRL results this year
NSW Cup 1st Bears/Storm NRL Storm 2nd
2nd raiders-NRL raiders 1st
3rd Jets/Cronulla NRL Cronulla 7th
4th Warriors NRL Warriors 5th
5th Bulldogs NRL Bulldogs 3rd
There definitely seems to be a correlation between NSW cup results and NRL results the following year
It is working because our juniors are coming through. Basically we had only 2 teams 2 years ago. First grade and SG Ball/Jersey Flegg. These players have moved up, some to reserves and some to first grade. I believe this was deliberate in that we did not want reserve grade players blocking the pathways. Added to our own juniors a few young stategic buys came in namely Matthew Hunter (shame we let him go) and Ryley Smith. The move a few years back to no longer have a shared system with Penrith was also critical going forward. My only concern when I look at our players coming through is a lack of speed. The other factor has been a good year on the injury front (touch wood). All going well we should win Jersey Flegg and what is interesting is how our SG Ball players have performed coming through compared to the Roosters who beat us in extra time in the SG ball in this years GF.
Our SG ball 2023 team was 1. Te Hurinui Twidle 2. Devonte Vaivela 3. Richard Penisini 4. Blaize Talagi 5. Mohamed Alameddine 6. Joshua Lynn 7. Ethan Sanders 8. Lance Fualema 9. Matthew Arthur 10. Sam Tuivaiti 11. Dom DeStradis 12. Charlie Guymer 13. Saxon Pryke 14. Sebastian Piukala 15. William Lewis 16. Patrick Spence 18. Samuel Squire 19. Kobi Hurford. We have lost a few of these so we need to learn how to tie the players to our club better than we do.
Looks like the only player we lost that is getting any NRL is Talagi
I don't see it with sanders either, little to bland. Raiders going after sandon smith now to they don't trust sanders either
Talataina and Volkman are looking good. Volkman getting his confidence back.
Our spine must be really good, lussick with the experience and twiddale just seems like he's improving
I think Nathan Cayless deserves a rap, many on here including myself thought he couldn't coach but given a bunch of young up and comers instead of the washed up old fringe first graders he had to work with previously he is getting results.
With the drain on players he's had available he's done very well. They just keep winning every week and dont miss a beat somehow
Volkman had a serious injury that saw him miss a lot of footy
Then due to Moses and Hawkins been unavailable he had to go back to grade underdone
Hes looking more and more confident in grade and showing signs of the player he could be.
Te Hurinui Twidle looks like he has a bit of something about him.
I think a few will have a shot at 6 and then depth Twidle will be our back up outside backs next year i reckon.
our cup team is why I've kept my Bar TV subscription...
Twidle is a gun & future star. his goal kicking is superb.
hit a penalty 40m out on Sat to win us the game
Lussick played 80 mins on Sat due to no B Hands.. otherwise doing 50+ mins
his experience & service around the ruck is solid.
even though he loves a 5th tackle crash play.
Volkman is improving there from when he was in 1st grade.. he's the intercept king now.
our competition hasn't been too tough to be honest but they look good.
some of these guys won't see first grade due to lack of jerseys available
it is good to finally see a team we can call on when the need arises for positional cover, its been years without decent depth.
if anyone hasn't been out to kellyville park it's worth it to watch the boys play.
the Jets & wahs games will be tough on our run home, but we should still finish top 5
i think with cup rules if we make finals
Papalii, hawkins, Guymer, Kelma are eligible to play down...
