Our beloved Timmy Mannah wants another contract

Where's Snake? Get him over here. This is outrageous!

....

Gutherson, Mannah are off-contract and on a mission to stay at Parra

He has a mortgage on Parramatta's fullback jersey, is playing terrific football for a club he has now called home for four years and doesn't see any reason why he would leave the Eels when they seem to have turned their fortunes around after a disastrous 2018.

Gutherson's manager, Sam Ayoub, will sit down with the Eels' head of football Mark O'Neill in the next fortnight to discuss the 24-year-old's future.

"I’ll give Parramatta first crack. I’ll talk to them first, I’ve been talking to them, it’s not like I have just left them out in the cold," Gutherson said.

"That’s for Sammy and for Mark and for the rest of the club to sort out.

"I just have to keep playing footy and it will sort itself out sooner, rather than later."

There are rival clubs circling the off-contract fullback should Parramatta not table a deal Gutherson deems satisfactory.

The priority for the Cromer Kingfishers product is a long-term deal, though he admits balancing loyalty for the club which gave him his chance to shine and the big bucks on offer elsewhere presents quite the predicament.

"It’s pretty hard, I think in any job it’s pretty hard," Gutherson said.

"That’s what the managers, what Mark and the team are here for – to try and sort that out.

"It plays a part but you just have to sit down and have a long think about it.

"Loyalty is very important to me, so that will play a major factor."

Loyalty may as well be Tim Mannah's middle name.

He is part of the furniture at Parramatta, having played his first game for the men in blue and gold 10 years ago.

The 31-year-old is also off-contract at the end of this season and while it pains the veteran prop to entertain the thought of playing anywhere else, he will do so should the Eels decline to offer him an extension.

"I would rather not [think about leaving] but it’s a possibility, if I have to," Mannah said.

"Ideally this would be my first, second, third and fourth choice but I am also willing to look elsewhere.

"I have been playing footy long enough to realise that it is a business as well.

"As much as I love the fairytale stories, I have seen boys move on and do things that I probably wouldn’t have preferred to do.

"I’m not going to limit myself to one club if that’s the only option."

Gutherson and Mannah aren't the only Eels off-contract at the end of this season.

Eight of the club's top squad – including Brad Takairangi, Mitchell Moses and Daniel Alvaro – will also decide whether Parramatta is their club of choice in 2020 in the coming months.

"I think we have done a good job of blocking it out so far," Mannah said.

"It has brought us all together.

"A big chunk of our players are off [contract] and the one way we can make it easy for ourselves is to win games.

"If you win games, chances are you are going to have a good chance of playing together as well."

Saturday night's clash with the Sharks – the Johnny Mannah Cup in memory of his late brother – is particularly special for Mannah

"We are always forever grateful to both Parra and the Sharks for giving us the opportunity to celebrate Johnny’s life," he said.

    • Agreed. And neither should be in our future plans. We can and should do better.

  • Timmy Mannah always puts in 100% and his offield example is also 100% so why not another 1 year extension.

  • Good lord! FMD, its time to move on Timmy, just fuck off for gods sake..

    • LOL

    • He was close to our best against the Roosters. He’s got a new lease on life.

      • Funny how many players seem to get that on the last year of their contract. Imagine their value if they performed for the full term of their contract?

    • Contracts aside Snake, even you can’t say he hasn’t been one of our best forwards in the first three games of the year? Even though I would be reticent to resign him, he has been a lot better the last three games than he has for the last three years. At this stage, I’d entertain a low offer to him.

  • Will if tim wants another contract i hope it with someone other club or he takes a big pay cut we need all the money we can to buy bigger forward like one of the Burgess and someone else and keep Gutherson Moses i hope we only keep 5 players who off contract

    1 Gutherson

    2 Moses

    3 Alvaro

    4 Mau

    5 Moeroa

    Rest thank you

    • Alvaro is hopeless

  • This pricks like a bad smell that just never goes away, but we love over the hill guys like this, thats part of the reason we are always also rans.

The good clubs try and upgrade and are always looking to get better, we just stick with mediocrity.

Id not be surprised at all if BA resigned this day dreaming happy clapping dope for another 3 years.

"Well in theory that maybe right but in real terms he is locked into his old contract if he returns to the NRL."

Bateau Bay Eel replied to Eels2025's discussion Have we really seen the last of Zac Lomax in Blue & Gold?
"Zac Lomax has effectively got out of his very under market value 4 year contract he signed. If he was to come back to the NRL he'd be on a lot more coin than if he'd stayed in his original contract with us. Win for Lomax whatever he does"
