NRL v NFL - which code is physically tougher?

Ok, I'm posting on an NRL site, therefore expecting a one sided answer, but how would you analysis the topic?NRL - No pads, only a mouth guard while guys run full speed at one another and collide.NFL - These guys are so hell bent on trying to target and kill with their tackles, protection is needed.Forget the endurance, speed, skill etc because both codes are different in those areas. Does wearing pads necessarily mean NFL is not as tough and brutal?

  • NRL is but I hate it when people say NFL is soft because they wear helmets, if they didn't everyone would suffer from concussion, but it is a tough sport which is why I love it also

    • They'd suffer concussion because of the huge pads that they wear, they can't physically lift their arms up so they have to barge the attacker with their head. btw they suffer a lot of concussion with the helmets on.

  • Well seeing as NFL is 10 second bursts of action, followed by 3 minutes of huddling and waiting for the commercials to end,and changing your whole line up when going on defense, offense or kicking a goal.NRL is 80 mins of non-stop play except for a interchanges and injury stoppage. The fact that small guys take on blokes out-weighing them by 20 or more kgs, without pads, except for that black bra thing they all wear (WTF is that for,can anyone tell me please) and I'd say NRL shits all over NFL.Even their scoring method is retarded. They only have to break the imaginary barrier of the touchdown line, just think how many hard it is to actually score a legal try.

The only place the NFL has us beat is in the quality of their cheerleaders.Tissues on standby, fellas.

    • I think black bra=GPS
  • they do but without them they would suffer more and worse

  • I hate this stupid irrelevant question - I love both sports deeply - both are full contact nobody mentions that the NFL players aer bigger and faster than NRL players and therefore the collisions exert more gForce

Rugby League is square on when defending - NFL has blocking - which means getting blindsided when not expecting to be hit - far more dangerous than square on

Oh, they wear pads, they must be sissy's

    gimme a break

NFL athletes are ALL bigger and faster than NRL athletes - compare linebackers and Running backs and DB's and receivers to NRL bodyshapes and size

On the small size for linebackers 250lbs (113kgs) but range to 265/270lbs is 120+Kgs - they run 40yards in 4.6secs and all they do is TACKLE

    yep - sissy's

    • Its not really a stupid question. Like I stated before, is the NFL style of play in regards to the physically tackling so brutal that pads are needed. For example, in NFL you can hit a player with the ball in mid air whereas in NRL you will be penalized. And shoulder charging is obviously part of their game which has been banned in NRL.
  • NRL. NFL is boring as batshit. I've seen it live and actually fell asleep. I woke up around the 4th quarter I think...well, people were leaving...

  • I would have to say NRL I know you say to discount endurance ,speed and skill but with all the stoppages in NFL it gives the players way more time to recover from a collision! So in my books NRL players have to be physically more tougher!
  • NRL without a doubt.

    1. No pads/helmets/cups.

    2. The same side has to attack and defend for 80 min. NFL has 4 15min quarters and have teams for offense, defence and special teams (60 odd players).

    3. NRL is played with minimal stoppages. NFL teams have timeouts. Teams can turn a 2 minute warning into 10-15 if correct tactics are utilised.

    4. NFL seasons are shorter. 16 games + Playoffs + Superbowl + Pro Bowl.

    5. NFL tackling is different. Most times, they just need to block opposing players.

Sometimes I think that the equipment itself causes injuries.

    Go the Cowboys.
