    • 100% agents would have dirt on him from his Canterbury days .  This is why the person running the game need to independent of any club , whether it be from a management perspective or a playing history . Greenberg has had scandal after scandal follow him and all have been swept under the carpet . He should’ve been punted over the Ryan Tandy thing .

The blokes rotten to the core .

      • Well we had an independent person before him in Dave Smith and he was heavily criticised for not being Rugby League enough.

        • Dave Smith was criticised becasue he didn’t know stuff all about the game . He then said he was a fan of The Roosters .  You can be an independent boss and still have studied the basics of the game . Stepping  directly from running a club and telling the world you bleed blue and white , straight into running the game and pulling all the strings isn’t just a massive conflict of interest , it’s comical .

There has been so many examples of him being involved in scandals , from the disappearance and reappearance  of Ben Barba when he got done for coke and the Ryan Tandy thing , to the Sam Perrett salary cap rort that John Grant just so happened to bungle so it went away , that leaves you with no doubt that Greenburgh may be happy to bend the rules AND potentially break the law to assist the Bulldogs .

Then theres the fact he was at Canterbury during their salary cap scandal , he put forward his mate who was involved in our cap rorting , the list goes on and on .

Dave Smith was just a plonker .

          • Actually Dave Smith was the best administrator the game had since John Quayle, he just didn't stay long enough.

            • Very very debatable .  He drove the clubs and administrators further apart than ever before , as he did with broadcasters when he did the deal without any advisors , he also outlawed the shoulder charge completely creating confusion and controversy with little thought because he didn’t understand the game . He was a yawnion man , and was a knee jerk decision maker .

All he did was bring in an old concept in the 7’s .

      • Completely agree. And same should be said for the salary cap auditor. You can't have a hint of corruption or favouritism in those positions. The fact they let Ian Schubert audit the very club he played 200 games for was ridiculous.

        • The Shoooobert thing was also a  ridiculous appointment and as plain as the nose on Laurie Daley’s face that The Rorters we’re always going to be untouchable under his watch . Hell , I remember going to games as a sponsor in the lounge , being entertained and greeted by injured players before the games and players after the game , and Shoooey was sitting eating his steak two tables away on numerous occasions .

    • Just the messenger

    • There's no question it is an amnesty of sorts, but honestly I don't think there is any other way of getting the agents in line. I'm no fan of Greenberg but in fairness to him at least he is trying to draw a line under the whole thing and say, "OK, from now on, you are going to be legally accountable for your actions in representing your clients."

I don't think it's too little, too late, because you've got to start somewhere.

The important thing is that the rest of the game is 100% united behind this new scheme, and the writer is right, that is indeed rare for Rugby League. If the Commission, executive management, RLPA & the clubs all support it then at least we know it's not window dressing or phony, it's a legit effort to clean up this aspect of the game.

        • Again, in fairness to the NRL, it only had one vote out of 7 on the old accreditation scheme. Greenberg's hands were tied.

Now whether that would made any difference, we'll never know, but it did limit their ability to discipline rogue agents.

Now the NRL won't have any excuses.

"Pops, We are better with Lomax the Lion if his heart were fully on the bus, rather than being a cat on a hot tin roof. If he comes back to NRL, some clubs may take a punt on him and who knows if we would, but he's done some damage to his NRL brand."
