Nrl player gambling probe

http://www.smh.com.au/rugby-league/league-news/nrl-players-caught-in-gambling-probe-report-20140628-zsp7s.htmlAn NRL investigation has reportedly revealed that a number of players are involved in betting on matches. The findings by the games integrity unit were laid out to several clubs on Friday, and a number of players are now believed to be facing sanctions, The Weekend Australian reports.NRL rules forbid any player, player manager, club employee or game official from taking part in gambling in relation to rugby league. The newspaper said it was unclear how many clubs or players were involved, but that the investigation had involved multiple players and multiple teams.AdvertisementThe investigation was reportedly launched after the NRL and its betting partners conducted a review of gambling within the code. The NRL declined to comment to The Weekend Australian.“The integrity unit undertakes a range of inquiries and makes public any findings, if necessary, at the appropriate time,” an NRL spokesperson said.

  • Interesting indeed. Wasn't something like this mentioned earlier in the season. Will be interesting to find out which clubs are in trouble.

  • So much gambling tied to the nrl now this is no great suprise. Let's just hope no eels are involved.
  • Has been mentioned that a Souths player may be involved.

    • It says a number of players are involved which means it may be spread over a number of clubs.
  • They need to bring sharia law into the NRL. Public stoning and lashings would solve the problems.
    • Some players may actually enjoy that. Being stoned in public then whipped.
  • I have no problem as long as you don't bet against your own team and only bet for the win
    • I get your point but that would be so hard to police. It's one thing allowing them to bet but another knowing who they r betting on.
  • Hmmmm Parra always win at home, but always lose away. Lol
  • What about a probe into referees gambling. Especially after origin 1. Was the first time I really got concerned of possible match fixing by referees
