NRL Denies Eels Exemption

NRL denies Eels’ request for bubble exemption after Covid bungle

The Eels’ exemption request has been denied. The Eels’ exemption request has been denied.

The NRL has denied the Eels’ request for an exemption and will not allow “dirty” Eels players to return to training until the day before their Magic Round game against the Warriors.

“Parramatta have been told reserve grade players can rejoin NRL squad once they arrive in Brisbane because protocols revert to level 1,” Brent Read tweeted.

“However, they must return negative covid test. Cannot train with NRL squad until negative test confirmed.

“Means Parramatta can name squad of 21 players but players who played in NSW Cup last weekend unlikely to train with team until they arrive in Brisbane

  • So go to Brisbane a couple of days earlier.

    • That doesn't change a thing, it's about the time they've been in contact with players in NSW outside the NRL bubble.

      • We could always send the players outside the bubble up early, get them tested then have them ready to go for when the NRL side arrives.

        • That's what I meant

        • That still doesn't change that they've been in contact with players outside the bubble. In Qld that's fine, we're only on level 1 restrictions, but when they come back to NSW after Magic Weekend they will still have pass a COVID test, the whole team will.

Sending them up to Brisbane early doesn't change anything.

    • Thats probably the only solution. Its going to make it difficult to get the sharpness if they can't train together. Hopefully the reserve grade players that get selected have previously trained with the NRL side and are familiar. That's why its probably important to select more experienced players in the team. The NRL are making it difficult for the Eels over a simple error in judgement.

      • Yes, but it will only potentially be one player who would take the field and who did not derive the benefit of training.

  • It'll end up ok, they'll have 21 players up in Brisbane for the game asuming no positive tests..

  • It's s non issue

  • they buckled - can use whatever players he wants and they join up in Brisbane . Don't see how that means they rejected the exemptions
