Once again the NRL are being dodgy with the cap.
It seems that Wighton will be allowed to sign with Souths because he is being signed as a centre which means he is not worth as much with Souths as he is with the Raiders where he is being signed as a five-eighth.
This is an absolute joke.
So let's sign Tedesco as a centre and pay him the same as Wighton because as a centre he is not worth as much. Then let's pay Tedesco from a third party that Tedesco of course organises for another $500k. My guess is this is the method that that Rorters used to sign Manu on unders even when other clubs offered him a $1 million to go to them.
Seems to me, certain clubs can get away with whatever they want in the salary cap.
Interesting that Manu is now suddenly playing 5/8 again. I wonder if the same will happen with Wighton. A player's value is determined by ability, not position.
What an easy way to simply sign all the best players and then say they are playing in different positions. So will the Rorters now be required to add more to the cap with Manu changing positions hmm or Souths if Wighton does similar? This is simply a joke but typical of NRL.
The NRL needs to learn that a cap is a cap and stop making exemptions for certain clubs so they can bend the rules.

Agree. Remember when Falou wanted to play for Parra but NRL took their sweet fucking time and when they did get around to it he was already signed up with ARU, same with Quade Cooper who wanted to play for Parra but ARU offered him a tiny more money and NRL still refused to go ahead with it BUT yet if it was Souths or Easts or even Broncos, they would've gave it a green tick. Easts and Souths and a few other teams literally got away with bending the rules with the Salary Cap while other teams like Canberra, Parra, and even poor old Tigs they have to fight to get these players to go over to them, unless I'm mistaken!
I often wonder if it was a Rorters player instead of Maatterson that was forced into a rushed decision about taking a fine or not if they would win the appeal. My guess is they would have hads it overturned. I think his grounds for appeal where reasonable considering the timing. I still think his mistake was not fighting the charge in the first place.
Yeh that's a disgraceful decision by the NRL to suggest a player's potential position dictates his market value. His market value is what he's being offered by other clubs 'in the market'. It's literally the definition of the term, 'market value'. The market has determined that Wighton is worth more than $1 million per season. THAT'S his market value. Any other argument is merely personal opinion.
Souths management should try and buy a car and offer 2/3 of the asking price because they 'won't be driving the car as much as other people normally do'. See how well that argument goes down with the car dealership.
The entire NRL salary cap is a complete joke.
What funny is last year we tried to sign Matt Lodge as a bench prop and the NRL expected us to pay the same rate as the Warriors paid him as their marquee starting prop.
Makes zero sense and is up there with their descision to let that Panthers bloke take up his suspension next year so he could play in the finals . It seems the NRL makes their rules based on what colour you are .
That's because the Roosters wanted him and had a quiet word with the NRL. Let's not be naive here, there are shadowy figures within the NRL pulling all the strings on behalf a number of clubs. Nothing is above board.
Our club leadership / board is a bit soft. These clubs prove the NRL is open to influence yet time and time again we flop when it comes to getting a decision with the NRL to go the clubs way. The front office needs to be as competitive as the team.
