The Parramatta Eels have pulled their offer to star lock Nathan Brown from the table after the Blues back-rower chose not to accept it before a deadline on the deal expired.
The Eels and the 28-year-old firebrand have been involved in drawn out negotiations, but have yet to agree to terms.
The Sydney Morning Herald revealed the Eels tabled a two-year, $1.2 million deal several months that Brown was unwilling to sign.
The club reportedly gave Brown a deadline in order to bring the matter to a head, but they have been unable to land Brown’s signature.
Brown missed the deadline date, with the club making the decision to withdraw the offer.
Brown’s management are still in active negotiations with the club and the $600,000 a season deal could be revisited, but it is an unwelcome development for both parties.
The Eels are also trying to keep back-rower Ryan Matterson and the club may face having to lose one to keep the other.
Brown’s preference is to stay at the Eels, but he wants a longer term deal and the Sea Eagles are also keen on his signature.
Brown has scored four tries in 102 games for the Tigers, Rabbitohs and Eels since his debut in 2013.
He made his Origin debut playing two games for NSW last season.

No point putting a deadline to an offer if you don't stick to it. Your move Brown's management.
Good stuff from the club to hold their ground. No nonsense, like it or see ya later.
This is the only way to stop these agents. If he wants to stay, it's on our terms.
Love it, negotiate hard and let them know early that any signature we seek will be a win win situation, we will no longer be held to ransom from player managers!
I have a feeling we may still secure Mr Browns signature.
I hope both Brown and Matterson stay. I mean $600 k a year isn't nothing to sneeze at. Some blokes want their cake and eat it too
True Monto, and after tax what's an extra $50k-$100k depending on term when you are getting beaten every weekend and not a chance to win that elusive premiership.
Glad we are prepared to call the bluff and move on if necessary.
He is good and worth 600k but he isn't irreplaceable.
Good on the club they can't go back to paying overs for players again this would be a generous offer in my opinion we have Papa at the club now who looks fantastic this is how you build a balanced roster by not paying overs
Club has to take a position and not allow themselves to be played, but gees, I hope we don't lose Browny. He has been the starch and aggression that our pack has been missing for far too long!
I doubt manly are as keen as his manager is making out, they need edge forwards not middles.
Yeh the Manly move doesn't seem right. Does Browny want to go and play 30 minutes a game behind Trbojevic?
