Brent Read is reporting that North Queensland Cowboys and former Origin and Test Winger Murray Taulagi is set to depart the Cowboys. Being off-contract and the Cowboys in a cap crunch with Jaxon Purdue, Scott Drinkwater and Jeremiah Nanai coming off-contract in the next two years, Tualagi is seen as a casualty in order to re-sign talent and also sign a Halfback with Roosters Halfback, Hugo Savala, linked to the Townsville based outfit.

Timing is everything and if you mind me putting my tinfoil hat of hope on could this timing of Lomax being released and Taulagi on the outer be coincidence? Is Taulagi a nice replacement for Lomax? Definately. He averaged 177 metres per game this year, big body, wonderful finsher, experienced and played both for Queensland and Australia. Plus he also has nice offload game.

Taulagi would be a nice get if we want a Winger that can emulate similar to Lomax, particularly in terms of yardage. St. George Illawarra are the first team linked as they are with everyone, if we are going for Garrick over him, it is a missed opportunity with Taulagi being younger and more damaging than Garrick.

  • He would be the ideal replacement but we probably wouldn't get him to 2027. Is Hiroti off contract now? I'm reading conflicting reports.

    • Hiroti is the one we should be chasing, along with either Taulagi or Garrick. We need two outside backs now Lomax is gone.

It will come down to how much $$$.

      Hiroti $300-$350k.

Garrick $400-$450k, as he is a goal kicker.

Taulagi $450 -$500k, being a SOO and Aust player.

We will still need some coin for NAS.

Koloamatangi will be in  2027 cap, if signed.

      • NAS should not be our priority right now. With the forwards coming through I would be fine to miss his signature. Outside backs and a nsw cup hooker is a must

      • Garrick would not sign with us for that amount unless we offered him 4 or 5 years which I hope we don't. He rejected Manly's 2 year $1m extension so would be after more $$$ or years for security.

    • Well from what i know he is there for 2026 and with Mulitalo missing most of 2026 they would want him as a back-up. As a back-up he is perfect as he can play Wing/Centre/Fullback.

  • I could live with that over the other options provided namely Garrick Talau and alike.

Question is would they move JAC to the other side.

Hes got the run metres and size that we need also.

Get it done Parra R and R.

    • Well Taulagi played right for Samoa, so should be an easy transition for him.

  • He's been linked with Titans and Dragons for a few months now. Some people are saying Dragons are a done deal with Taulagi

    • Dragons would go for Jesus Christ if he resurrected tomorrow. If they get him they finally got someone.

      • Who wouldn't want Jesus on their side lol
