" Nooo not another Hayne blog " sorry folks it's relevant to what BA identified in rebuilding our team and some members agreed ( some even long before BA arrived ) so piss off.Henry never wanted to sign HayneIt's the $1.2 million problem on the Gold Coast that Neil Henry never wanted - Jarryd HayneWith the Titans season going from bad-to-worse, journalist Paul Kent told Fox Sports NRL 360 that Henry was against signing the divisive Titans star due to the amount of money the club would have to sacrifice to get him.“He didn’t want him there because for Neil it was about managing the salary cap, there was too much money being put into one player for the salary cap, the Gold Coast, which we all celebrated at the time, because they went out and they said from a marketing point-of-view he was going to bring ‘X’ number of dollars to the club, that doesn’t help Neil Henry.”Kent's colleague at The Daily Telegraph Phil Rothfield stated that Henry likes to coach a club with an 'even roster', without having stars on salaries over $200,000 a season. However, the decision to buy Hayne was heavily backed by the Gold Coast board, a move that has played a part in their shocking season, sitting 14th on the ladder with seven wins from 20 games.“It was the board that wanted to sign Jarryd Hayne, not the coach,” Kent said.“So if the board’s going to call Neil Henry in and ask him for a ‘please explain’ about winning or losing the dressing room, about performance, then they have to then tell the coach why they insisted he had to take this player.''Kent believes this decision has greatly influenced the Titans' disappointing year, despite Hayne scoring eight tries in 14 appearances in 2017.“It’s not working because his board said, we’ve got this guy here, we’re going to take him here, we’re going to pay him a fortune to play here and suddenly everything Neil Henry had planned for that side is now out of shape,” he said.http://www.sportingnews.com/au/league/news/henry-never-wanted-to-sign-hayne-nrl-gold-coast-titans-salary-cap/1npznj0vjbhht1pfiif7vr715o

  • Poor Jarryds going to feel left out in the cold and will be sulking after this.

He cant try and prove everybody wrong in the finals, hes going to have a long off season to think about this.

Id be guessing that Henry has given Kent the go ahead to print this and put pressure on Hayne and the board and protect himself.

  • The Hayne brand must be up there with OneTel and Ansett these days . If you look back now it's blatantly obvious he was pretty much our anchor post 2009 .
    • A most satisfying article. Oh how the wheels have turned. Karma is a bitch my boy
  • Hayne in search of the big contract payday and chasing silly NFL dreams based on his Playstation abilities has pretty much destroyed, the far more lucrative and longer lasting passive income he would have gained trading of his name and image that would have lasted a long time post football had he made better choices. It would be easy to say that maybe Hayne is a victim to his management but this would dis-count that time and time again Hayne himself has proved to be a massive dickhead both in the team environment and off the field. I hope for his sake the money he has earned he has invested wisely because I don't see too many lucrative post footy options for him.

    • back to Minto huh?

  • No sympathy for him.
  • I thought at the time that Henry didn't want Hayne at the Tits, the NRL did. The Tits were playing the best footy I've seen them play when Hayne arrived.

    Look now.

BA isn't silly. We new allllll about this bloke a long, long time ago Wiz!

    • Some still chose to deny he was an issue Grunts and without putting members in either category , there must've been thousands of sentences debating whether he was a positive or negative on these pages . I'm sure the Hayne undies brigade have now reflected and changed their minds . I bet Brian Smiths got a wry smile with a touch of " told ya so" these days .
  • Yes, I can see your point.
    Must be the short shorts.

  • It's a bit sad how we can turn on our own players.
Obviously Hayne has overvalued himself but he will always have a special place in my heart for the footy he played at Parra

In our well-justified praise of Ryley Smith, there is a big thing being missed: his ability to read the game and footy IQ.
He is a couple of plays ahead and anticipating every move both in defence, primarily at present, but also in setting up the…
