A big g’day to everyone on One Eyed Eel (OOE). I have been a regular follower of the posts on the site and I finally decided to join up. The analysis of the game by many regular contributors has impressed me. I now live in FNQ so I don’t get down to many games- two to three per year- so it is good to keep up with all the news via The One Eyed Eel site. I may as well start by putting some thoughts out there for others to consider:
Just watched Sterlo tonight on Fox and as usual I agree with everything he had to say about the Foran fiasco. We all know that Parra needs Foran “There is no plan B.” I haven’t given up hope yet but the longer this drags on the more likely he will sign somewhere else (Probably the Roosters). I think if he is coming we will know by Saturday’s game.
Like everyone else here I am annoyed and frustrated with the management of the club. Just when you think we have hit rock bottom something else happens and we seem to be back to square one. What a shame we can’t get Sterlo on in a role like Gus Gould has at the Panthers. He is a legend of the club and he has a brilliant footy brain. Anyway I don’t want to rant too much but just some other thoughts:
- I really rate Mannah. I think too many people on the site are too tough on him. He is always taking the ball up from our own line doing the hard yards. I think any stats on him surely must support this view. Whilst he rarely offloads the ball, this is not his role in the team so it is not relevant.
- Norman has been one of our best players all season and once again I think some people here have been too critical. He has been involved in many of our trys and he is always involved playing with passion.
- Watmough has been a bit disappointing but he does a lot of work that seems to go unnoticed. Sure he has dropped a few balls but he does a lot of hit ups. I thought people were too tough on Rene Matua (Bulldog) for the same reason. Players that do a lot of work are more inclined to make more mistakes. I like workers so I can handle a few dropped balls.
- Our kicking game has been poor all season. We rarely get repeat sets of six and the opportunity to build pressure.
- Goal kicking. Say no more, cost us two games that I can think of.
- I think Brad Arthur is a good coach and we need to stick with him and for this reason I don’t have an issue with the get out clause in Foran’s contract regarding Arthur as coach. Although I don’t think I would want any other contracts registered with such a clause.
- We need to get Moss on board now, although I don’t think I would like to go down the private ownership path - Newcastle Knights are evidence of what can happen.
- Every team has stories about what could have been throughout the season but I really don’t think Parra is that far off the pace. We did lose the best player in the game at the start of the season and we have lost a lot of games by less than a try.
- Finally, as much as i am disappointed in the what has happened over the past few weeks( No Years) i look forward to going down to Sydney on the weekend to watch the Eels knock off the Dragons.

Welcome Ian. Shows some guts to put up your first post during our week of despair.
I hope you enjoy our robust debating as much as I do !
G'day Ian, im a huge fan of Timmy aswell, especially his leadership and captaincy, im also a huge fan of Corey, so welcome aboard, good to see we have plenty in common, you actually sound a bit familiar Ian but i wont hold that against you at this point,
cheers mate
I came down for three games last year- a win over the Roosters at home, win over Bulldogs at ANZ and the narrow loss to the Bulldogs at ANZ ( Ball boy fiasco). I always look forward to it and this weekend will be no different. I will take the old man out to the game (He lives in Sydney and loves Parra) and i think a win over the Dragons is on the cards. These are the games Parrra wins. The ones you don't expect them to win.
I expect them to win, Ian, but my footy tipping is atrocious this year.
No love Sandow blogs from me Wizard. Brilliant player but not the right fit for Parra. What's wrong with the bullet points?
First time blog Snake but i grew up in Parra and played footy for Guilford /Toongabbie mid 80s.
