New Signings

Hi fellow Eels supporters,

I have heard rumours of possible signings of Cooper Cronk and Anthony Watts. Has anyone heard anything new relating to these to players. I believe these 2 players would give us the boost we need. I like Jeff robson and i think Daniel mortimer can be a freak of a player with the right structure and guidance, but imagine A Watts at hooker and C Cronk at half with D mortimer at 5/8. Now that is a halves and hooker combination that can get a team going forward.
Let me know what you think, maybe we can all get involved and bombard ozzie (CEO) with emails to get the team the Parramatta people want to see win us a Grand Final.

Wouldn't mind those 2 for sure...right now I wouldn't mind just about anyone! We're letting players go left, right and centre. I doubt we'll get either Watts or Cronk. Watts has apparently been offered a deal by the Roosters. Storm are in the process of letting around 10 players go so that they can keep all of the Big 4....

Ther is a few of us on this site that have been trying to give this "RUMOUR" legs but I am not too sure PO and DA have caught onto the idea yet.

Eelstar,

You might want to take a long browse through the blogs there are heaps of posts on both players.

Watts won't be coming. Cronk won't be coming unless Melbourne release him. If theydo, well then we'll be in with a shot but a lot of water has to pass under the bridge before then.

Our problem at the moment is that we need an experienced head to guide our side around the park - most likely to play halfback, allowing DM to learn his craft from 6. By promoting a junior you are effectively losing even more experience than we currently have - which isn't much.

Furthermore, there doesn't appear to be too many promising prospects on the horizon at the junior level who can play half. Kris Keating was probably the last 'great hope' we had apart from Mortimer.

If we fail to get Cronk we will really have no other option than to offer a Kimmorley, Barrett, Orford or Monaghan a 1 - 2 year deal otherwise we'll be struggling again next year.

Cronk wasn't thrown straight into the Melbourne side when he was 19 and learned under Orford for a long time and on occasions he would play 5/8, and when they believed he was ready they got rid of Orford and employed Cronk as fulltime HB

Don't write off Michael Dobson... Someone here, can't remember who, mentioned him the other day. He's been doing really well in the ESL and is only 24. Would cost a fraction of the likes of Kimmorley, Monaghan or Orford and has youth on his side....

I'm gonna throw a name into the ring and see what you guys think. I have been hearing that the dragons are gonna release Cooper and Hornby SLF to free money for Gasnier. Well I really rate Hornby and I reckon he would be great to teach Morts and I reckon he still has at least 2 to 3 years left in him at the top level. He is still younger then the rest of the top shelf halves on the market. What do you guys think about this????

  Considering the Dragons have let reigning NYC player of the year Beau Henry leave to join the knights would indicate that they intend on having Hornby at 7 till he retires.
  
  Although I do rate Hornby as footy player as he is adept at numerous positions he is nothing more than a makeshift HB imo, who has a dominant 6 outside him in Soward which is why the commbination works. Hornby at 7 with Morts at 6 would be a horrible combination for Parra.
  
  Plus do you actually think the Dragons would release their captain? Of course not.
