I wrote some months ago saying that the new rules will suck in various ways. Well those chickens are now coming home to roost. Just like Super League, the spectators are not turning up at games--as I predicted. There were 7,000 at last Monday nights game. This weeks games the numbers are down with the notable exception of the Eels game which drew a reasonable 30,000. The NRL does its worse to see off the Eels when they are one of the best drawers of fans tat keep the NRL stats from falling through the floor. The Eels game was highlighted by a fiasco of the new rules. It is now reported in the media that that rule will be abolished for Round 24. They will probably go back to a scum for a 40/20 kick. Also people are questioning the new rule that when a ball is kicked dead the side now with ball can race up to the 20 metre line and start a seven tackle set. Most times the referees call the for ball to be taped again on the 20 metre line. That new rule ought to go too.
Craig Bellamy is meeting with the rule change committee shortly with complaints against most of the new rules. Suck they do indeed!
