New rule changes and Parra

The main rule we could take advantage of is no tackling attacking players mid air. We have tall wingers and second rowers that could feast on this rule. Not sure if Waqa can jump. It could also bring Taka back in contention as first back up for centre and maybe give Parry a boost.

I hope Parra have been getting some tips off the Giants. I am sure Roosters and Storm would be getting some input from AFL nearby.

    • Yes we seem slow on that. If Kenny Edwards was still here he would be loving it

  • Great points, Wily, as you often make. The new scrum rule will also probably add greater opportunities for points. Conversely, it also means we'll need to defend better, especially in our red zone, & not crack under pressure. Our achilles heel last year.

    • agreed- I guess that is where the zippy backrowers might get their revenge for the no tackling in the air rule. Our backrowers will need to make their one on one tackles

  • FFS with Taka you get 3 guaranteed fcuk ups a game. His involvement is less than a linesman and I could outrun him.

Your point is accurate otherwise. Don't we have an ex AFL dude on staff?

    • "His involvement is less than a linesman"... hahaha - that's gold!

  • Waqa Blake played AFL while living in WA. I can’t recall what his aerial work is like but you would think he has learnt something in his time playing AFL

    • Interesting. Pity he did not get a Pre- season to practice.. we should be taking advantage of this rule.

  • I don't see much change in this rule than what is already in existence. When was the last time an attacking player was actually tackled in mid air? Surely they don't classify ( shoving, contesting) for the ball as tackling because if so there is going to be a continual bombardment of bombs and the referee continually blowing the whistle and the bunker being over used for the smallest infringement and then add to that the possibility of the Capt challenge being over used in these instances which all adds up to slowing down the game and resting the defending team before the next set. Dumb rule unless they're specific which they never are. It will definitely add up to this:

  • I think our right side will benefit will benefit from this. Majority of the height is out there with Matterson, Waqa & Fergo

    • Lane is tall, Sivo and Dylan can jump
