New favourite emerges for Jonah Pezet

The Canberra Raiders have emerged as favourites to land Jonah Pezet, with Pezet's management saying they are having one eye out on other suitors as well. A report states the deal is all but done but Pezet and his agents are waiting to see what happens with Parramatta before signing. The article also states that Lomax getting released would free up $650k making us have $1.9mil in the cap. This part confuses me, as it stands if correct we currently have $1.25mil in the cap with 2 spots in our 30 left. Now, unless a deal has been struck elsewhere that has yet to be announced, i would think we would have enough for Pezet as it stands and still more than enough cash for another player in our 30. Why is Lomax the common denominator. Makes me think we have another signing or two already done.

I also have it on good authority, the news i have heard is Lomax has signed with R360 but for 2027, not next year. So it remains to be seen what Lomax and Parramatta do with that news if true.

  • If he does go to Canberra, you'd have to wonder what Ethan Sanders is now thinking. Or maybe it's just that Sanders isn't as good as everyone had previously talked him up to be.

    • they realised that was a bad signing

  • Let it all play out and we'll go from there 😂

  • Sign sanders back if Pezet goes there

    • I mean sure. Though i think it is apparent Sanders is a Halfback only. Pezet is more of a 7 but has talent to get by at 6.

      • Wouldn't you prefer an experienced 5/8 rather than someone who can 'get by'. I think the only reason Pezet would go to Canberra is he will play his natural position as a halfback.

        • Why are you saying that to me? I'm saying we go for Pezet over Joash. I would rather talent. Pezet is a more talented half than Joash.

          • As a half, yes, Pezet has more talent than Joash. But, as a 5/8, who's to know. Then you have to look at is he looking at a short term deal so he can return to Melbourne. Personally, I don't believe he would make it as a 5/8, I think it will turn out to be another Galvin scenario, a 5/8 trying to be a halfback.

            • Well you do realise Pezet debuted at 6 and played a bit of 6 in QCup?

Might not be a running 6 but can run the ball when needed and has smarts to get around it.

Papali'i showed he is capable of filling in at 6 if needed.

          • Pezet has also stepped up in a semi LB, under pressure when the result mattered, he came through.

Joash has not done that yet

"That is exactly what he is looking at. He saw that first 25 and as soon as our middles rotated we looked so much better. He wants that fast start and Williams he may feel gives us that better chance."
