When are We Getting a New CEO of the Eels?

It is over 6 months since Scott Seward resigned "for family reasons". We all now know what that meant with the debacle of decisions that related to player signings, contracts and salary cap issues that the club faced, all of which was reported in the media.

We have not heard much from the club about the next CEO and who is being interviewed or even head hunted. We have had John Boulous as acting CEO during that time but will he get the job? What are his credentials? Is he experienced enough?

What would you do? Would you try and poach Brian Canavan from the roosters to be CEO? What about Gus Gould? Or Steve Noyce, as he is available? Is there another Raelene Castle around? Maybe interview someone from another code like AFL or A-League? What about getting someone from outside of sport and from the business world - would that work? What sort of credentials are we looking for in the new CEO? How much would they cost? Do we need to appoint an experienced senior sports administrator to make a statement to the members, fans, the NRL , the RLPA and the rugby league community?

  • I reckon John Boulous has done a cracking job so far and deserves to stay there.
    • Prior to him being the acting CEO i'd never heard of him. Are you able to give me a quick run down of who he is and what his credentials are?

    • I've only met him once and very quickly. Phil knows him well and would be better placed to give you some insight. If you google his name you can get a snapshot bio.
  • I think things have finally calmed down at eels town, whether this is because of John doing his job properly or not who knows only the board and people within the club would know. I wouldn't assume the people you have listed are doing a great job or could do a better job, it's pretty easy to look good when your team is full of stars, you have power brokers like they do at the roosters and dogs and Gould loved Cleary 1 yea and was the coach he wanted and poached from the Warriors then out of nowhere sacked him. I am pretty sure John came from another sport so maybe he does have the right credentials.
  • Well we look to have missed out on every available centre on the market. Junior Paulo looks to have signed with the Raiders. He's doing a bang up job.

    • I think you should be pointing the finger at the recruitment and retention commitee on that one....ie Arthur and Anderson
  • Surely if Seward was negotiating contracts with possible new players eg Foran & Hoppa he was involved in recruitment at some level? Has Boulos stopped doing this now?

  • i think they've actually recruited quite well. I think you will find Gutherson is a great addition to the team and if Folau can get his act together and you throw in the likes of Foran, Norman, Semi and you've got yourself a pretty good backline. Takka is pretty solid when he's fit as well.

Dont get me wrong would've love to of seen roberts in a blue and gold jersey, but realistically it was never going to happen.

  • Steve Noyce would be good as he has plenty of experience nc and is a well respected sports adminsitrator both in rugby league and racing. But We probably don't know what good candidates are available and you just need to look at other CEO at other clubs and see that some of them have come from diverse backgrounds
  • Shit. That is even more concerning.....
