Nelson Asofa-Solomona has turned his back on up to seven NRL clubs interested in his service, quitting the NRL to take up a full-time deal in boxing.
News.com.au can exclusively reveal the NRL’s biggest man has quit rugby league indefinitely to pursue his dream of becoming a heavyweight boxing champion.
The 115kg enforcer has also become the first off-contract player to shun the mega bucks of R360 and also the riches on offer in the English Super League.
The former Melbourne Storm forward has signed a full-time boxing deal and could earn up to $1m a year in his new sport.
Plans are already underway for a rugby league super fight with another high profile NRL behemoth.

So when yoiur employee says "take this job and shove it" you think you can refuse? How? Send armed guards to collect them each morning?
The best you will get a non-compete clause.
The club wrote a shiny narrative around our divorce but i don't buy it....You did
No, you find a soulution . Real clubs manoeuvre around this shit all the time with unsettled players. We offer him a bump up, or make a deal beneficial for both parties. As in , champ you give us a great 2026 and if you still wish to leave , we release you no strings attached. Or maybe even find a good swap deal with another club he'd be happier at. Our guys are just poor operator's.
I don't believe for a single second this was just all about that whacky union 360 comp. Who asks to be released , and cut off their income instantly without a signed agreement securing your next paycheque
Can you imagine the uproar on here if that's all we do, upgrade and extend from within. This place will go into meltdown.
'This place' matters far less than what happens on the field. I suspect it wouldn't have been good for us if Lomax had stayed and kicked stones while chewing up ~8% of our cap. We are far better off with good culture than more talent, if it meant culture had to suffer.
Haha, Randy. I'm on board with that analogy. Other people are not in the controllable basket. If she wants "to walk", you open the door & tie a red ribbon around her. Ours has a long string though lol.
Hoe, it constantly amazes me how many folks see other autonomous humans as easy to control and manipulate. People come with many features and some of us can be wilful creatures
Haha, Randy. I used to be constantly amazed at how over-confident we tend to be in our belief structures. Or need it. I too often slap myself, symbolically speaking, for making assumptions and over-reaching.
Luckily I enjoy thinking about things as I don't seem to have a choice. If I don't actively think about some things the thoughts will intrude and I will end up chewing it over anyway. Randette knows how I tick and she helps me tock
Feel see do phew...must be nice...also sounds like a Vietnamese dish.
Yeah good point, if Lomax wanted to stay we keep him. But also i have heard Ryles was not too fussed, feeling the price for a Winger was too high.
Arguably the best winger in the comp when he's in his happy place , on what 600 or 650k? Ryles needs his head examined if he thinks that's overs.
Unfortunately me thinks Ryles coaching inexperience was what drove Lomax's decision. He went backward under Ryles and his masterful " Kick it to Lomax , Mitchy " playbook.
