Wallabies and New Zealand showed on Saturday night the spirit on how the game should be played. It was televised to each RU nation that every member of both teams embraced the National Anthem. No race or religion,just good old belting the tune out. What did the NRL deliver yesterday. A fraction of each team weakly sang the Anthem, and most did not bother at all, and that is down to Administration of the V'Landys and Abdo game. Race,religion and politics are now a feature of the NRL product along with the man bags,eye liner and brows. And what about the disastrous Swims half time debacle:

That it wasnt some washed up 80s rock band. If they want to market the game big, appeal to new eyes and try to capture the largest audience, you need a big name performer. Teddy Smith is one of the current trending acts, makes sense to hire him. This is in relations to pre-game entertainment. Of course, the product and main attraction is the game at hand.

Australian Music should be supported at events like this....and it's a more appropriate place to call for "Patriotism" than the anthem Alan Kay
I still think ultimately we should use some minutes to promote a local artist, but ultimately if you were to use a local artist, the fans would just go on about cheap entertainment. A lot were praising the pre-game stuff at the AFL grand final, but in reality, the whole set was a distraction to cover for snoops B grade performance, it's why you'll see them bring out a lot of other musicians, back-up dancers etc, they need that extra bit of entertainment. I think Teddy Swims done a great job in his performance, NRL have delivered one of their better selections.
Maybe if our Eels took us to the grand final we wouldn't need to worry about it, and if they delivered a premiership, fuck it they can have the devil perform 😂
I will add that Teddy boy probs played this gig for mass exposure to the Aust "middle of the road" market. Expenses plus a bit. That exposure should be used for our Artists, not some yank with nothing special to offer.
Agreed there, but that's probably not for the NRL to make a call about supporting local acts. Mind you, the State Government should have been pushing for support of a local act, that's their job to support and promote home grown industries that have wide public benefits and appeal.

It's a game, they're players. The biggest injury most of us will get is RSI from being keyboard warriors on the internet. The only one politicising this stuff are people with deep personal insecurities. Wait till you find out that they have a shared changeroom with each other...
