My Top Ten Reasons For Optimism

For all the great things that took place tonight, I come away tonight with just a really good feeling that slowly but surely our club is improving for the better. So here's my top ten reasons to be a proud Eels supporter tonight who is optimistic about our future

1. Luke Burt

This blog says it all

2. Nathan Hindmarsh

I find it hard to disagree with this blog

3. Team commitment and composure

I think tonight was reflective of the kind of effort Eels fans have been yearning for, for a long time

4. Matt Keating and Daniel Mortimer

Both maligned by a lot of fans, I think both of them stood up tonight

5. No Fuifui or McGuire

I've often said that Fuifui has been the single most influential player in the side and Casey McGuire has arguably taken over that mantle this year. To win that game without either of those players speaks volumes and it's important to realise we have Justin Poore and Reni Matuia to come back

6. Carl Webb

Did enough tonight to show he's going to be a very important member of our side and was probably one of the reasons why we didn't miss Fui as much as we normally would

7. Ryan Morgan

He copped it last week from pretty much all of us, but a class performance tonight in that first half - beautiful line to score that try and really did well in defence. And I was stoked for Etu as well scoring a try.

8. Improving NYC

I know they lost tonight but the Cowboys are one of the favoured teams so to push them at this stage of the season, when we've got a lot of improvement left in us is really, really promising. I have no doubt the NYC boys are going to be contenders this year

9. Pre and post-match activities

Big thumbs up for the post-match event and I like the concept of the Nathan Cayless pre-game show too, even though I've yet to get myself their early enough to catch it. Good idea not only to give the fans a bit more love but also to bring people back to the club and boost the coffers. Oh and I even liked the half-time activity which is a new experience for me

10.The Swarm

I noticed in the highlights that the flags got a good airing and I don't know if we're having any impact yet away from our bay, but I can tell you it was freaking awesome being in the midst of it tonight. Etu said he heard our Etu chant too!

  • Reason no.11 Steven Kearney. He is the man who can help us help ourselves tranform our culture.

Yippeedoooda, here's to No.3. !!!! We confronted the challenges. We didn't surrender and go through the motions. We fought for ourselves. Here's to attitude !

Lets hope some blogsters who reside in the dark clouds of doom and gloom don't forget the attitude we showed tonight. Remember this performance after the inevitable losses and challenges force us to confront our own committment and attitude towards the club.

  • Carl Webb was the turning point. Matt Scott was beginning to smash us off the ball and when Big Charlie came on the mood changed. A rampaging interchange of Webb for Moi Moi for Webb for Moi Moi is a very exciting prospect.

Lassalo had a monster game and is finding his feet. As the entire site knows I have a huge concern about our backrows ability to hit the line and make yards. This puts pressure on our halves to get space and our props to run wide. Lassalo was a real threat last night.

Morts and Robbo best game for 18 months.

BUT the best part was the courage not to panic and throw in the towel. That comes from fitness, structure and a game plan. We were gone at 10 -0 but stuck in and won against a team with a brilliant half back.

  • The Swarm were the noisiest they have been by far ,it looked like it was rocking over there.
Suggestion for a chant as they seem to be pushing for the song Sweet Caroline at  half time

Sweet Parra Town (Dun Dun Dun)
Good times never seemed so Gold(and Blue and Blue and Blue)

Also can be switched to certain players

    Sweet Jarard Hayne
    maybe Sweet Lukey Burt

Anyway keep up the good work guys and girls,The trip to Melbourne not seeming so daunting now

    GO PARRA

  • Can't disagree with any points there Phil.
We were definitely louder in the Swarm today, and it's good to hear that the players heard us.
I'm sure Shack would have heard us too when he came off and we were singing Love Shack.
  • This is my favourite blog of the year so far Phil! : )

Thank you so much for making my Sunday morning so lovely and making me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

I am so sad I missed this game, but was hanging off updates for most of the night. Promise I won't miss another game this year (and I am making more signs).

It is so wonderful to hear that players like MK, Etu, Morts and Morgs had good games - especially after being quite heavily criticised over the past few weeks.

Also Luke Burt - what can be said. A true champion and someone that makes me so supremely proud to be an Eels supporter.

  • On Fox I think it was Andy Raymond (sp ?) said something like

JT is kicking right in front of some of the most annoying and loudest supporters in the game.

    Good work

  • I had a great time in the swarm last night even my mate who isn't a parra supporter was going hard with the chants. Can't wait for the next home game. Will take the swarm spirit with me to Melbourne though.

    Go you mighty eels.
  • Etu is a gun well done mate motm stuff
  • Phil   ,

Next week we must start with complete mongrel = FUI FUI  WEBB AND MANNAH

I so agree we need Justin Poore and Reni Matuia  as well as MCGUIRE  .    For me LASALO proved a real weakness tonight ,please watch the replays on his speed . HE WAS SO SLOW  AND FAILED TO GIVE CHASE .

Our winger also had a no brainer game , and i think WALKER MUST FILL THAT WING SPOT .

Keating did play ok , i will admit that but he wont be consistant enough and mcguire is the obvious answer .

Things will improve --- its the wait  that hurts .

  • He was alright, but not man of the match.
