My takeaways from today

1.Brian Kelly needs to get sacked,is there none better or something going on behind the four walls.to try and bring a outside back on loan deal or something cause Kelly is seriously horrendous.

2.Junior paulo ain't first grade standard anymore,I've said it before and I'll say it again. He just makes to many unforced errors and is just slow..sadly his primes behind him and wouldn't be suprised if it's his last year.

debelin shocking to nothing more to say bout him.

But overall thoughts we showed alota heart jus to many errors (Kelly) but hopefully when we get the boys back rnd 13.We can get a bit on a roll but other then that it was just man vs boys.our piss weak and tiny fowards getting dominated by there big men..onto the next💙💛

  • Think a bit harsh on de Belin actually. Felt his first stint was pretty strong. Paulo was ok, though moving him to the bench would help moving forward if we can get a starting Prop.

Kelly, though getting through work and trying, he is way too rocks and diamonds at the moment. I mean Richie Penisini came back to a hat-trick in Cup. I mean not completely ready yet to just throw him into NRL as a Winger, he could be an option moving forward.

    • Agree, he bent the line a bit with his first few carries. His second stint he tried the Dylan walker role and it didn't work. Think they need to keep his role simple

    • What was so obvious was the move away from what worked against the Dogs. Jr and JDB needed to be told to tuck the ball under the arms and run hard. Neither of them should have the license to off load, especially down in our own half. When you're down on troops, you need to stick to the basics, minimise errors.

Tonight JDB, JR and Walker all went back to their old ways. Walker with his low percentage, hospital passes. He did a couple against the dogs last week. These are the little things Ryles and the coaching staff are to blame for. That's what coaching is about.

Volkman also didn't do what he did to Preston last week, that he should have done to Olaku'atu. That rushed in your face defence. We basically let Olaku'atu run riot.

Don't get me started on Kelly. We had the reliable Nanva and Ryles chooses Kelly, and doesn't tell him to cut out those errors he has in him.

IMO this week's loss is down to Ryles and the coaching staff.

  • Kelly isn't the answer but he's completely acceptable in his current role. He gave 110% today and made some great plays. He put his body on the line. Put some respect on that.
DeBelin also hung tough. Is he good enough? If he was the 4th bench spot he'd be fine. But he starts at our club.
We have 12 missing. That's a reserve grade side.

    • Kelly was pretty good bar the errors, but Manly were hitting hard in defence and even with a cut the error mindset they can be forced at times.

  • Kelly will not be sacked, and he will be picked this week.

Ryles will persist with him due to his strong yardage carries that help us make metres in our first few tackles each set.

However, Ryles needs to coach the errors out of Kelly's game. Maybe Ryles could lean on Simonsson on this one to mentor Kelly? Bailey used to be error riddled years back and had to find a balance between creating something beneficial in attack or preserving the ball to ensure a set is not at risk of being compromised.

  • There are more changes that we can do, but after that first half we needed to do what Manly did second half and throw the ball around.

Manly have pace and energy and they exploited that.

The way we played against Titans would've probably worked here especially second half.

We also didn't ice the good possession we had first half.

We scored everytime we threw the ball to the edge and ran in space.

    Regarding changes:

    - Kelly is a bit of a problem. He comes up with some amazing plays but he has directly caused 5 tries last 2 games either by coming in too early or throwing wild offloads that give away possession. He started their pressure today. It's too risky with him, move Russell to right wing and bring back Nanva. (Or throw in Richard Penisini).

    - I think De Belin was alright, but just like Kelly, It won't hurt if Saxon Pryke takes his role.

    - I think Williams also had a weird game a bit. I think Kautoga once back is playing there. We need his energy and tackle busts.

    - Finally, We really are missing, dare I say it, Pezet and Iongi. Pezet maybe not soo much, but he has the "x-factor" to make a play and might've created a try for us that period in first half. But the big thing is Iongi, I think having him there instead of Joash would've won us today maybe. He just has more eye for a pass and is a better tempo setter.

We simply need one more top class spine player, and the only one we have is Iongi, unless Pezet or Volkman or Joash in 6 really step up. I'd be considering Lorenzo Talataina just for this. Manly had Fogarty, Koula and Brooks (who was a bit shit but still) all with the ability to make a game breaking play. We currently only have Moses.

    • Volkman >>>> Pezet

      • 100% CORRECT

      • I'd persist with Volkman but just making the larger point that we need better players in the spine.
