My First Blog

Hey everyone, after reading blogs for a while now I thought it was time to finally have a go. Great news to see we may have Horo for a few more years, a great player to build our future around. Also great to see we may have Grothe finishing his footy with us, I think he might become more of an impact player of the bench also pretty versitile. Have been thinking for a while about moving Burt into the halves to help out, and older head with plenty of experience, speed, good vision and left foot kicker,He would be a pretty good fifth tackle kick option. Would be interested to hear everyones thoughts.

  • very happy with Horo and Guru also m8 but no on Burt idea from me aswell i dont hate him as much as sinbad but i think he'll be lucky to start next year.
  • Welcome aboard briseel, nice first blog , but I gotta agree with sinbad on this one about Burt being in the halves, to late in his career to being playing in the halves.. Have to tackle way to much, and I don't know if he has the skills to play there either.... But I think he is a great winger, and has alot more skills than most wingers do , but to move in at 6 or 7 is whole different kettle of fish!!
  • I still don't get why there's all this Burt hate here.
He's been a fantastic player for us over the years, and he still has some juice left in the tank.

    Good first blog too Briseel.
  • A big NO to burt in the halves idea, he is an arm grabber in defence. It's wing or fullback for him if they have to move Hayne to 5/8 if they dont buy a quality 7.
  • A very warm welcome to our Eels family. :-)
  • Agree on all.

Sterlo also thinks Burt could play 6 and I would say he knows more than all of us armchair coaches combined. Last I watched, Lockyer can't tackle either.....or Soward for that matter.

Poor ol Burt, he cops it on here for his tackling... What is he, 89kg wringing wet and he has to tackle 100kg blokes who can all run 100m in under 11 secs. He might go better where the attackers aren't running so fast.

Honestly though, if we snare a high profile half I'd be tempted to move Hayne back to 6 again.
  • Hi Briseel. I don't think Burty would make a good half either, but I have great faith in him as a winger and as a kicker - sure he missed last week but he's kicked more than one blinder before and that solo kick and re-gather try a couple of weeks back was awesome. I don't care if some think he's too old, I say he's got at least one more season in him and he will be as consistent as he has ever been. Other than the fact that he is on the small side and can be run right over the top of in defense, I think he is great in attack and has been a loyal and consistent player. I LOVE BURTY :)
  • A very warm welcome to our Eels family

    from me too !!!
  • Don't know that Burty should be playing in the halves at this stage.

But Soward is a good example, they hide him in their defensive line as much as possible, usually out in the centres. The bloke is an absolute speed bump, but he's crucial to the dragons' attack.
  • Yeah Burt was the option they could've gone to last year I guess.

Perhaps he could've come in and done some more kicking for us on 5th tackle though.. I'd say he'd be second to Hayne in that ability in our team.

On another note - good to see that we've actually signed some people (Horo and Guru) for their worth and not necessarily their potential!

    Welcome to the site!
